Details

Duotone Mono 2020

New for this year is the use of lightweight Dacron material and redesigned construction details for a maximum saving of weight. These materials enhance the handling of the kite in ways never thought possible. While the general design approach has remained the same, the kite is radically different to last year’s model. The lower weight ensures unrivalled drifting abilities, more dynamic handling, a near-mystical ability to stay in the air in the lulls and improved power from a faster upstroke. Finally, the relaunch of the kite is much easier too; it’s so light that the slightest of puffs of wind will see it rising back into the sky. If you want a light kite for travelling, this is it, if you want a dynamic kite with an incredible low end for foiling, step right up, if you are just starting your kiting journey and want an easy to fly, forgiving kite, look no further. If wave riding sets your heart on fire, the Mono will happily stoke the flames especially in light winds, or perhaps freeride is your game, you’ll enjoy the constant pull and smooth power delivery. The Mono may be defined as a one-strut kite, but it is so much more than that, take one for a spin and find out what it is all about!

Tech Features

Duotone Mono 2020

Load Distribution Panels
Load Distribution PanelsLoad Distribution Panels

As kite geometry improves, the canopy must continue to resist increasing forces. To spread these forces, Load-Distribution-Panels are used, holding the kite’s shape even under the most extreme loads. In practice this gives a smoother and more consistent performance from the kite in any riding situation.

Fusion Strut
Fusion StrutFusion Strut

This construction allows for a controlled distribution of forces between strut and leading edge. Struts are 100% connected to the leading edge with a flexible Dyneema line, which promotes higher canopy tension and a clean profile.

Double-V Pigtails
Double-V PigtailsDouble-V Pigtails

These pigtails distribute the load of the line connections to the kite, minimizing the risk of fatigue, making the kite less prone to distortion and helps it to steer more smoothly.

Kook Proof Connectors

The kook proof line connection points prevent accidents by guaranteeing that you cannot accidentally connect your lines incorrectly when rigging your kite.

Heavy Duty Leading Edge Closing Seam
Heavy Duty Leading Edge Closing SeamHeavy Duty Leading Edge Closing Seam

The leading edges of all kites are extremely durable due to a special heavy duty closing seam. The Dacron material at the leading edge is reinforced with a self sticky Insignia Tape and double stitched additionally. The Heavy Duty Leading Edge Closing Seam is resistant to very high tensions and diagonal forces.

Trailing Edge Force Control
Trailing Edge Force ControlTrailing Edge Force Control

The Trailing Edge Force Control is responsible for the smooth power distribution between the different materials of the kite, forcing the tensions in the right directions. Since 2013 the waves are higher and wider to eliminate stress points between the Dacron Trailing Edge and the Trinity TX Canopy material. This change in construction reduces fluttering marks and ensures that the material is not wearing out.

Self Rescue Handles
Self Rescue HandlesSelf Rescue Handles

The self-rescue handles on the inside of the wingtips can be easily found in case of an offshore break down. They provide a good, comfortable grip while sailing back to the shore during a self-rescue manoeuvre.

Anti Snag
Anti SnagAnti Snag

The Anti Snag webbing is preventing the lines from tangling around the tip of the kite. Waterstarts are made easier and safety is increased.

True Quotes

Duotone Mono 2020

Paula Novotna
“The moment I touched the Mono kite I was impressed. I went foiling with a 7 m Mono in very light wind and I loved it. It is like a toy. You are just flying around on your foil and the kite is so easy to play around with, loop, downloop, make turns, learn new tricks, and just enjoy the time on the water with the most suitable gear available.”
Paula Novotna
“The Mono was our lightest kite before and it remains our lightest kite. It hangs in the air in the lightest of lulls and relaunches in a whisper of wind. The Mono's single strut gives the canopy needed structure - whether in the air or during a relaunch. The Mono is the perfect kite for LIGHTWEIGHT RIDERS, FOILERS AND FREERIDERS.”

“I am really impressed with the new Mono! The amazing low aspect ratio makes the kite so easy to relaunch in almost no wind it’s crazy. This is the best kite for foiling with small kites or for any lightweight twintip riders using small kites in light wind.”

I have been riding the Monos since the first year they were introduced, I have had a few Evos and Neos and Rebels but I keep coming back to the Mono as my do it all, all season Kite. Excited for my 2020’s to see how much more Ican progress. The Mono makes the hard stuff easy and the easy stuff fun.

Super stable in lightwind conditions
by Norbert from Germany
PROS
  • super easy handling
  • stable in the air in almost no wind
  • love it for foiling and wave riding
  • surprised good hangtime
CONS
  • Compare to price and usability. Nothing
BEST USE
  • Foiling and Wave
Comment

I was using the Mono on a Demo Event and I was suprised how easy it was to handle it in almost no wind.

It is definitly my choice if it comes to foiling as the foil is expensive and I don´t wanna spend so much money on a proper foil kite. Prefer Freestyle and Big Air Kiting ;-)

BOTTOM LINE
Yes, I would recommended this to a friend.
