What a Season Freestyle Finale in Brazil

The final stop of the GKA Freestyle tour in Taíba delivered everything the riders had trained for — and more. Three days of wind on tap, mirror-flat water, and an atmosphere so charged it felt like the entire Freestyle world was holding its breath. With only two Freestyle stops on the 2025 GKA calendar — and Abu Dhabi unable to finish due to fading wind — the world titles were decided entirely by this single showdown in Brazil. One event. One chance. Everything on the line.

For Duotone, Taíba became a defining stage: 16-year-old Finn Flügel (GER) crowned Freestyle World Champion, Claudia León (ESP) earning the Vice World Title, and Francesca Bagnoli (ITA) stepping onto the podium in third.

Opening Rounds: Duotone Riders Set the Tone

Finn opened his campaign with a clean, composed heat — advancing straight to Round 3 and signalling he was fully locked in for the title fight.

Across the men’s field, Karim Mahmoud (EGY), Val Garat (FRA), and Gianmaria Coccoluto (ITA) all delivered confident opening performances, progressing through their early rounds with solid trick selection and consistency. Their riding set a strong tone for the Duotone men’s field heading into day two.

On the women’s side, Claudia León (ESP) — competing in her first full Freestyle event since returning from ACL injury — opened her campaign with a 26.63, riding with height, precision, and clear confidence throughout the ladder.

Francesca Bagnoli (ITA) brought her heat management and trademark style, delivering clean execution to secure her place among the top contenders.

Semifinals: High Stakes, High Precision

With the 2025 world titles on the line in this single-event championship, the semifinals were nothing short of high-stakes, high-intensity action.

In the women’s draw, Claudia León (ESP) and Francesca Bagnoli (ITA) held their composure under pressure, securing the scores needed to push Duotone into the final and guaranteeing a podium result for the team.

In the men’s semifinals, Gianmaria Coccoluto (ITA) stomped out several insane manoeuvres, amongst them a KGB5 that earned him 8.83 points, securing him a spot in the final.

For Finn Flügel (GER), the semifinal was where his momentum truly took shape — clean execution, smart trick order, and complete calm under pressure earning his place in a final that promised to be one of the season’s highlights.

Women’s Final: Claudia Vice World Champion, Francesca Takes Third

The women’s final opened the last day of competition with strong, confident riding across the pack.

Claudia León (ESP) delivered height, control, and a smart trick strategy, securing the points she needed to claim the Vice World Title.

“I’m so happy, I have no words. It’s been a very tough year recovering. 2023 I got injured. 2024 I was in rehab. This is a very special one!”

Francesca Bagnoli (ITA) followed with solid, composed execution, earning herself third place and giving Duotone a double podium in Taíba.

“It was an incredible competition, I’m stoked, I’m third overall this year, I couldn’t ask for more.”

Men’s Final: Finn Flügel Becomes Freestyle World Champion

The men’s final will be talked about for years.

It brought together four riders capable of taking the title: Finn Flügel (GER), Maxime Chabloz (SUI), Gianmaria Coccoluto (ITA), and Matteo Dorotini (ITA). All four opened with clean, high-quality tricks, creating one of the most tightly contested heats of the season. All riders came in firing at full capacity with no crashes for the first half of the heat.

Midway through the heat, Finn Flügel (GER) stepped up with a perfectly executed KGB9 scoring 8.87, a moment that shifted the leaderboard and raised the pressure on the other finalists. He maintained rhythm and composure through every remaining attempt, finishing the heat with a total score of 34.53, unmatched by any other rider.

In the highest-pressure heat of the Freestyle season, one of the youngest riders in the draw handled the pressure with a calm beyond his years, demonstrating exceptional control, confidence, and competitive maturity.
