Spencers M2O

Double Island Downwind Missions

Last weekend was all about big glides, deep channels, and legendary crossings. Finn & Jeffrey Spencer, our board shapers from Maui, took on both the Maui to Molokai (M2M) and Molokai to Oahu (M2O) Downwind Foiling races – two of the most iconic ocean races in the world.

Both races are about foiling long distances on open water, and constantly shifting winds and swell. For Finn and Jeffrey it wasn’t just about performance – it was about the fun of Downwind Foiling and pushing their limits across these back-to-back crossings.

Spencers M2M

Maui to Molokai

The M2M race kicked off the weekend with classic conditions: strong trade winds and clean swell lining up the 26 miles (ca. 42km) channel between Maui and Molokai. Jeffrey and Finn used the race as a warm-up and gear test for the big one to come. With smooth lines and steady rhythm, both crossed with solid finishes in the Top 10 while collecting valuable knowledge on gear and conditions.

»Yeah, the ocean doesn’t care if you're tired from the day before! But I loved it. Especially M2O – I felt solid the whole way through. Finishing 2nd in my age group and 6th overall was the cherry on top of an already incredible day. There’s no way to describe that feeling of flying across the channel, surrounded by so many likeminded people who all share that same passion. It’s really something special.«

Molokai to Oahu

The real challenge came on Sunday with Molokai2Oahu (M2O) – a 40 miles (ca. 65km) crossing of the Kaiwi Channel, known for its power, unpredictability, and rich Hawaiian heritage. The race attracts some of the world’s top watermen and women – and the conditions delivered.

Finn put down an impressive performance, finishing 2nd in his age group and 6th overall in the SUP Foil category. Despite the fatigue from M2M, he managed to stay locked in and ride some of the longest glides of the season.

Well done Finn & Jeffrey! Those Downwind Races are not only an incredible achievement on the water – but also a valuable experience that feeds straight back into R&D and product design.

»It was incredible. These races are so much more than just competition – they’re about community and pushing your personal limits. Doing both M2M and M2O back-to-back really tested my fitness and focus. I had some gear issues during M2O which cost me a bit of time, so I just missed the Top 10. But honestly, it still feels amazing to finish strong. I was still pretty far up front, and the experience alone makes it all worth it.«
