Hi guys, is there a diference between the power.xt 2.0 with blue ratchet and the white ratchet? different years different colors or upgrade?Thx in advanceAP

Antworten

No need to answer; I believe I have the answer with a post from 9 months ago; no change since 2014, only in the colors.Thx once againAP

Antworten

Hi AP,Happy to hear that you‘ve found the answer to your question within the thread already. Cause that’s the major purpose of the product support threads :-)

Antworten

I tried following the instructions for rigging a Naish chopper with the XT but it looks hideous. Is there a proper video to show the correct threading for a parallel tackle block please?I’m amazed that there isn’t this question on this forum.Cheers!

Antworten

Hi Sel,Welcome to the thread. Please have a look at the manual which came with the Power.XT 2.0 and follow step 16 to 23.In case the manual got lost please check here: https://a.storyblok.com/f/1...

Antworten

Yes - I did follow that but it still rigs horribly. The pulley seems to be in the wrong place.Maybe there’s a video that clearly shows the threading?

Antworten

Hi Sel,Of course the Power.XT was developed to work best with our tack roller orientation. But as you can see in step 22 it looks pretty good also with rotated tack rollers - despite the fact that you always need to thread the rope.

Antworten

Hi where is the serial number on the extension and I base to register the warranty/ thanks

Antworten

Hi Tim,Thanks for double-checking. During the registration there is an info on where to find the serial numbers on our products - please see attached. https://uploads.disquscdn.c...

Antworten

hello Can the new duotone power xt receive a shox shock absorber ? CordialyManu

Antworten

Hi Manuel,Thanks for double-checking. As mentioned above under the tech specs the SDM version can be upgraded into the Shox system. Due to the further reduced diameter (to avoid direct contact between the extension tube and the mast and thus corrosion) the RDM version cannot be tuned though anymore.

Antworten

it’s a shame for windsurfers who only use RDM masts ?!I have a duotone powert xt RDM V2 (the one with the gray adjustment ring)...can the shox 2023 SDM be used on my extension? If not, in what year did duotone still make this shox?

Antworten

Hi Manuel,Unfortunately the world wide demand got so small that we had to stop offering the Power.XT Shox in 2018. We kept on offering the Shox Upgrade Kit until 2021. As mentioned this Upgrade Kit still works with the current SDM version. The RDM version got upgraded in 2020 featuring a new adjustment rig and a reduced diameter. Since that time the RDM version is not compatible with the Upgrade system anymore.

Antworten

Are there still Shox RDM for my North Sails Power XT V2 extension?CordialyManu

Antworten

Hi Manuel,If you can still find a Shox Upgrade Kit RDM in a shop then yes. We stopped offering this in 2020.

Antworten

Uni xt Shox RDM 36 is compatible with the power xt ?CordialyManu

Antworten

Hi Manuel,Ok now we have it all. Since the Power.XT and Uni.XT have different cups unfortunately they are not interchangeable.

Antworten

Hello one last question for the Shox SDM there are two settings: "regular set up" and "maxi travel"....what's the difference? why use one rather than the other?Cordialy Manu

Antworten

Hi Manu,Well the regular setup is for regular chop conditions while the max travel is for really choppy conditions. In the max travel setting the rig/sail-foot sits higher and thus should be used in extreme conditions only.

HiI bought the Power XT Sls this year. Unfortunatly i have to say, do not buy it. The bottom insert breaks. I changed it already two times. Today I was the the first time with the neu Bottom Insert on the Water. Guess what? It brokes again because of a catapult Crash on the water. The pressure of the pin makes it broken. A lot of money for nothing. I m very dissapointed. May be it is better with the no SLS Power xt.

Antworten

Hi Markus,I’m very sorry to hear about the failures with the Power.XT. Breaking the same part multiple time is very unfortunate indeed. I fully understand that you might have lost faith in the extension and don’t want to use it anymore. So maybe the best way is to get the insert exchanged again and then sell the extension. Maybe someone else will have more luck with the extension. Cause overall we don’t have received only very few breakages with this part.

Antworten

If you know somebody who is lucky never Crash on the water I could do that. The kind of break has been three time exactly the same. I find this issue should definitly bother you. And I am really disapointed that you can offer a better solution to spent again 30 SFr for nothing. May be Uni xt would be fine. I bought my Extension in STS Hinwil Windsurf Switzerland. I m a good Duotone Client. I have two sails with all duotone components.

Antworten

Hi Markus,I can only repeat myself that I‘m really really sorry for the problems you are facing with our product. Please check with your shop as the part should be replaced for free.Since the Uni.XT features a similar bottom insert system I would also not suggest buying this. I simply want to avoid that you run into the same problem again.

Antworten

I have an Older Uni Xt from north. Never ever did have a Problem with any mast base extension. Only with Power Xt Sls. The first time it breaks I thougt that this can happen. May be my fault. Second time I noticed after the second use it is broken again. I changed again. Yesterday I went with the foil on water. As the wind rised I crashed. As I m not so good on Foil I changed foil with the Fin (my board is a fanatic jag). I could not believe that the bottom insert brokes in the same way like before. I think for that, this Problem has nothing to with luck or something else with me. And when you look at the bottom insert of Uni xt it has four screws and it seems similar with my old Uni xt which is much more robust than the sls one.

Antworten

Hi Markus,So you already had good experiences with the Uni.XT. Then I would suggest going for this extension.Just wanted to avoid that you experience another problem with our products.

Antworten

I checked with the Shop. They will send it to Duotone to find out what is wrong with the extension.

Antworten

Hi Raoul, I’ve only had it happen once but my north ibase disconnected with my power XT whilst I went for push loop any idea what could’ve caused that? Everything was connected as it should when I launched. The ibase is about 4-5 yrs old, the power xt is about 4-5 years old. Frank, New Zealand.

Antworten

Hi frank0968,Sorry to hear about this issue. Honestly it’s very hard to tell what might have caused this from a distance. The only idea I have is maybe exchanging the release botton of the Power.XT and the top pin of your base.Cause after 4-5 years of hardcore sailing (and doing push loops sounds like hardcore sailing) these parts might have worn out a bit.

Antworten

Morning raoul, the push loop was a bit of a one off I’m just a average sailor, it’s only happened once so hopefully it won’t happen again and realise it’s difficult to pin point the cause, just thought you might have other cases of it happening & could shed some light on it.

Antworten

Hi frank0968,In the 10 years since we have released version 2.0 I have heard of maybe 5 cases where this happened. In most cases it was in combination with a non-Duotone base. Cause even though all base pins look the same some of them have not exactly copied the milling position.

Antworten

Hi Raoul, frank from New Zealand here, I’ve recently purchased a blue handled RDM power xt but it couldn’t fully connect to my 2 new chinook pro flex euro pin bases but did connect fully to an older chinook pro flex euro pin base which Nis only about a year older than my 2 newer ones. The blue handled xt did fully connect with my duotone ibases without any issues, has there been design changes in the last 2 years? I’ve been using RDM power XT’s for 8 years & love them but this blue handled one seems like there’s been a few changes from the non blue handled XT’s including the diameter of them, the blue handled XT’s seem narrower in diameter compared to the older non blue handled ones?

Antworten

Hi Frank from the other side of the planet :-) Welcome to the thread. Thanks for double-checking. The changes we did to the Power.XT in 2022 were purely aesthetic. Means apart from the colors the extension is technically unchanged. So all dimensions of all the parts are identical. The reason for the incompatibility is as follows: after we had released our pin design approx. 40 years ago brands just started copying our pin without double-checking the dimensions with us. So what appears like an interchangeable market standard to consumers unfortunately is not (always) the case.

Antworten

Hey Raoul, frank from New Zealand again are you saying my new chinook pro flex euro pin base pin dimensions are slightly different to what they used to be? It just seems odd my older XT’s fit my new bases but my new blue handle XT doesn’t fit them which to me points to the new XT being the issue not my new chinook bases? Is it chinook I should be going back to then asking them that their euro pin bases has slightly changed? Somethings changed over the last 2-3 years and it’s either the chinook euro pin bases have or duotone XT’s have? Another issue the older split XT collar doesn’t fit the new blue handled XT’s but the non blue handled XT’s with the isnap collar were interchangeable with the split collars there seems to be a change in extension diameters?

Antworten

Why did duotone change from the XT split collars to the isnap extension XT collars ?

Antworten

Hi Frank,I’m sorry but I can only tell you the facts about our products. And as I said apart from the colors nothing has changed on the base of the Power.XT. The only thing we have modified was the tube diameter and the adjustment collar. Cause same as with the SDM version we wanted to avoid the direct contact of the aluminum tube with the inside of the carbon mast. Cause this leads to a contact corrosion (called galvanic element). Alongside this we also took over the adjustment collar system of the SDM version. Decades of experience have shown it’s the lightest, the most comfortable to operate and yet the most reliable adjustment collar system.

Antworten

Hi there, is the Power XT compatible with long U-Pins like in the attached picture (or only short U Pins) ?https://uploads.disquscdn.c...

Antworten

Hi Flow,Thanks for bringing this up.The only XT which is not compatible with the long U-Pin (or better saying Duotone Pin since we invented this system approx. 35 years ago :-) is the EPX.XT RDM (where it's mentioned within the tech specs). All other XT's are full compatible with the long pin.

Antworten

HiWhat is the difference between using an aluminum or carbon Boom and locking the extension in the outermost position (the description says you should not do this with an aluminum Boom)? Can I use the RDM extension in the outermost positin with a 6.8m2 sail (3 Cam), RDM, Carbon Boom, i am 70kg? What would be better in this case, aluminium or carbon Extension? Best regardsAndreas

Antworten

Hi Andreas,Welcome to the thread. We have covered this question above under TIPS & TRICK - CAN I REALLY USE THE FULL ADJUSTMENT RANGE OF THE MAST EXTENSION.Please let me know in case you need any further assistance.

Antworten

Hi Raul, Power XT 2.0 works great on Racing sails 9,4 ! unfortunatlly die - Derigging is not working anymore, its brand new 2nd use. I rigged like in the manual or in the video. Was not used in salt water. What can i do, rinse in Water, use silikone spray, i think the little sping has not much pressure. but + rigging ratching still works.Just no function on - I would appriciate an hint or cloue thx al lot Oliver

Antworten

Hi Oliver,Thanks for reaching out and sorry to hear about your issue. The problem you are describing is outlined above under TIPS AND TRICKS - AFTER A WHILE OF FLAWLESS FUNCTION THE POWER.XT RATCHET DOESN'T RELEASE ANYMORE. Usually this only happens after a while and not after 2 times rigging. The only explanation I have is that maybe you pushed the lever as hard as you could when releasing the tension. Even on a racing sail not much power is necessary to release the ratchet. Good thing though is that you just need to replace the lever (as described above) which is a fairly easy fix.

Antworten

Can I use this even for larger sails such as NP V8 8,2?

Antworten

Hi Lars,Thanks for double-checking. Not all the info on this page is just „marketing lies“ :-) Jokes apart the Power.XT 2.0 was designed to withstand even the massive downhaul forces of 12qm racing sails. So yes a NP V8 is a piece of cake for the Power.XT 2.0. Please let me know in case you need any further assistance.

Antworten

Hello Raoul,I just bought the Power XT 2.0. I tried it without rigging. After several tests, I noticed that the sound had changed. At the very beginning, there was only 1 noise. The "click". Now, there are 2 noises. A rubbing noise and just after the "click". Is it normal ? Thanks a lot for your answer.

Antworten

Hi Nico,The sound(s) the Power.XT produces heavily depends on the load. Means using „by hand“ the sound(s) will be different to when downhauling a sail.

Antworten

Thanks for your answer. I understand. It is a bit hard to explain. I think that the sounds are different when the extension is completely new. Any friction noise at the beginning. A friction noise after several tests (only by hand). To me, it comes from the friction of the pawl against the gear...

Antworten

Hi, can I ask, does this of power xt model differ from the previous green-one? I mean still named Duotone, but rather XT only and not XT 2...thanks

Antworten

Hi Mjk,Thanks for double-checking.Short history "lesson" :-) The Power.XT 2.0 got released in 2014 so almost 10 years ago. The only 2 things we have changed since then were in 2019 (new brand logo) and in 2022 (new plastic colors). So technically the Power.XT 2.0 is still unchanged to the 2014 model.

Antworten

ah ok great thanks, that clears everything then, thanks also for prompt reply, cheers

Antworten

I’d find out that’s not true, because the diameter of the first generation Power XT 2.0 RDM was 32mm and nowadays it’s 30mm

Antworten

Hi Rein,Sorry can‘t follow you there. What you mean by that’s not true?

Antworten

Hi Raoul, Thanks for helping the community love the power xt even more. We habe 3 power xt, two old ones from North sails , one new 2.0.In my sadness all of the three don't work any more because the rope slips when putting tension onto sails. It's sooo frustrating and sad!! Since we never gave some maintenance to the xts I will try that first, but I can't imagine that this will help at all. A friend of us had the same problem, changed the wheel, didn't fix it. I changed the rope from different brands, it didn't help either (also with the original one). So please help us make the power xts great again! What can we do? Thanks!

Antworten

Hi DP,Welcome to the thread.I have good and bad news for you.The good news is that there is a fairly easy solution for your new(er) Power.XT 2.0. Please refer to the explanation I had sent to Eduardo a bit further down in this thread. The bad news is that for the (old) Power.XT 1 we don‘t have a solution to this anymore since we have run out of spare parts. Actually the rope slipping issue was one of the main issues why we designed version 2.0. There was a spare part spring which could stop the slipping. But as said we have run out out stock here quite a while ago. Plus this was always just a temporary fix.

Antworten

Thanks Raoul! I will try that but it would be super cool if there was a video/tutorial for it since further down you don't recommend opening the XT by on its own because its too dangerous too lose springs? Also , why you think doesn't the solution (bending the spring) apply to the older power xt? Mime have springs at the exact same location. Just curious where is the difference?CheersDaniel

Antworten

Hi DP,Since you have been approx. the 4th customer who "managed" to get the rope slipping on the Power.XT 2.0 in the 9 years since it's on the market we didn't feel the necessity to produce a video (yet). I think the best solution would be to get the Power.XT 2.0 serviced at you dealer. Cause these guys usually know how to open and close the system without destroying it. As for the original Power.XT 1 even though the mechanism of the PXT 2.0 looks similar from the outside it is a complete new construction. Yes bending the spring might also help here but again this is only a very temporary fix. To give you an insight the PXT 2.0 features an additional spiral/coil spring underneath the metal spring to avoid the rope slippage. The original PXT 1 did not have this.

Antworten

Oh well, then I guess we are pretty unlucky to be the 4th customer that ever happened ! I opened the XT by myself and saw a very VERY flexed spring. I proceeded as you recommended and bent the spring back to its original design. First try the rope slipped through again but then I tried another rope from another brand and Voila , it worked! This also worked for my old Power XT, so thank you very much for helping out!

Antworten

Hi DP,Happy to hear that your DIY approach did the trick and the Power.XT is up and running again.

Antworten

Hi Team, The body of my power XT 2.0 broke under the load when downhauling my foil sail. I've had years of faultless use from this so by no means do i think that its a design/warranty issue or anything like that so no stress. But i'd really like to replace this part so i can get back out there. I see that this part is not listed in your spares shop. Am i able to purchase a replacement please? Many thanks https://uploads.disquscdn.c... ?

Antworten

Hi Todd,You are a killer man :-) Breaking the cup in half I have not seen before. Here is the spare part you need to order through your dealer:DTW-XT Spare Power.XT 2.0 Cup compl. RDM (SS20-onw) - item# 14200-8165

Antworten

Thanks Raoul. I'll follow that up. Yeah Phantom sails take a lot to downhaul :)

Antworten

Hi Todd,Yeah well (too much) luff curve can be a bitch (on masts and extension life’s :-)

Antworten

True that. But in Phantom's case it does make for a pretty sick sail.

Antworten

Hi - I have two older North extensions RDM, silver/grey. Would the SHOX upgrade work on them? Thanks

Antworten

Hi Richard,I assume you mean the an older Power.XT 2.0 RDM before we have changed the adjustment ring system? If so the answer is yes.

Antworten

I have a question on the 3 'Spiral' springs that come with the replacement base insert kit , all 3 are different sizes, the largest ('C') we know the location because it's installed in the replacement kit already, please confirm with the other 2 being 'A' smallest and 'B' medium. Which one is used at the bottom as detailed in your install video and which one is at the top of the insert, Thanks Tonyhttps://uploads.disquscdn.c...

Antworten

Hi Tony,A = spring behind the spring steel plate at the bottom of the insertB = spring on top of the L-shaped spring steel plate inside the cupC= correct location

Antworten

Hi Duotone- Team,I think, this problem has already been discussed here, but I could not find any solution. Me and my windsurfbuddy Andi both use the Power XT. I always use the carbon rdm 2.0, Andi uses the normal rdm 1.0. We both have the problem, that mostly after (not even very hard) landings (frontloops, high jumps) the rope slips from the loop wheel, even if I have a medium tension as shown in the super hero visual trim system (we both have only duotone gear, meaning the platinum masts and booms and also the sails). Actually, we are happy with our gear but now staying in Cape Town we had to secure the ropes by threading it around the wheel and the extension which blocks the adjustment afterwards or the faster rigging (which it was meant for). Would not be a little plastic nose underneath the wheel helpful to minimize the risk of the rope slipping off the wheel? It did not happen just once and I had to swim for a while because if the extension is not in the mast anymore, you lose the connection between board/ sail. Can you please help us?Thank you,Hubertus and Andreas

Antworten

Hi Hubertus and Andreas,Thanks for reaching out. Sorry to hear about your problems - swimming back to the beach especially in cold CPT waters is not really enjoyable at all.Indeed we had one other guy who brought up this issue already. Here is what I had replied back then:„The only time we have ever heard of something like this was from Victor after landing a massive backloop in Pozo on this 3.7. There are 2 possibilities which might have caused this: 1. you have left a pretty big gap between the tack roller of your sail and the roller of the Power.XT. 2. by chance the rope loop might have been caught at the edge of the roller instead of completely slipping imto the roller. Please make sure to check this every time before sailing. What you can also do is to use the excess rope and tie it around the extension and rope loop.“ Agree this way you loose the fast „on the fly“ adjustability. But I guess still better than risking another swim.

Hi Duotone Team, I am a big fan of your power xts since the release of version 1.0 and also appreciate very much the improvements you made for version 2.0. That being said, I am thinking about buying your carbon sls version of the PowerXT (already owning a SDM 2.0). Unfortunately, there is nothing written about the advantages of the sls version with respect to the normal one on your web page, except of the weight reduction. I assume that it will not make a big difference for me performance-wise, especially since I am mainly freeriding on an intermediate level or under light wave conditions. At least this is what I generally found being stated about carbon extensions on the internet. (Am I missing something?) I would still love to buy your carbon powerXT even if purely for the estetics (As stated above I am a big fan of your innovaton.) On the other hand, I am a bit concerned about the robustnes of the carbon PowerXT. For the UniXT you state that the carbon version is very durable. Is this also the case for the powerXT? Are the same components being used? Do I have to worry about the sls version being much less robust than the normal one?

Antworten

Hi Freddy,Welcome to the thread and thanks for bringing this up.You are right we don't mention the SLS version in particular. But since it seams that you follow our products/innovations quite closely I'm sure you already know that SLS stands for Strong-Light-Superior. And of course this also counts for the Power.XT SLS. To give you a bit more tech insights the ratchet cup is identical to the other versions. Means the weight difference only comes from replacing the sandwich alloy tubes with a very lightweight carbon tube. Weight indeed is making a huge difference on the rig. And it's the one thing everyone feels and benefits from no matter if you're a beginner or a pro rider. But to be fair the higher up in the rig the more you feel a difference in weight (due to the leverage effect). Now what's about durability? Well, our whole team is using the SLS version. Easy to say you might think since they get their equipment for free. But first of all they have a limited equipment budget and most important even these guys don't like to swim :-) So let's speak about facts here: the breakage rate (in percentage to the sold units) is on the same low rate than the alloy versions. Usually we get 2-3 broken tubes per year - and that's including our team riders who push the equipment to the limit. All of this made us confident enough so that we offer our 2 year unconditional warranty also on the SLS version. Please let me know in case you need any further assistance and/or info.

Antworten

Hi Raoul, thank you for the swift reply with the cool insights into the tech and your experiences/statistics with respect the durability. You pointed out my main concern: It is not pleasant to have to swim, especially during rough conditions or during the cold season. I am now sure that the sls version is perfectly suited for me even with my largest rdm freeride sail needing 34 cm extension length.Just ordered the sls version and now I am stoked to test it on the water. Thanks again for your great response to my question!

Hi friends from Duotone, I have the POWER.XT and has been an incredible device, however I changed the entire "11 RATCHET LEVER" and the "14 GEAR WHEEL" and the rope (the original and in very good shape) is sliping when tension is created. The rope was on storage a lot time meanwhile I received the spares (It is not easy to found Duotone spares in Chile). So , I don`t know if the salt could be affecting this.I have also tried with a new rope I had of a different brand, that worked better, however when putting the final tension also slips. Is there any advice? , Can I do some kind of maintenance to the original rope maybe?

Antworten

Hi Eduardo,Thanks for reaching out.First question: when exchanging the Gear Wheel are you 100% sure that you have not lost any of the internal springs and have put back everything EXACTLY as it was before? Cause if not then the whole devise is not working anymore. Now let's assume that you have done an accurate job here. Then there is only one thing which could cause the rope to slip. We had this on 2-3 XT's so far so it's a very very rare thing to happen. Please see attachment on how to proceed. Please let me know if this does the trick. Cause if not well then you need to send the Power.XT to a dealer who knows how to maintain it.https://uploads.disquscdn.c...

Hi Tamas,To help as many people as possible to follow the product threads we have decided to run them in English only. Therefore I have translated your message as follows„Hi Raoul, I own 4 Power XT 2.0 and none of them works anymore. Having 4 defective XT 2.0 in 2 years are just too much. Ok I sail 200 days a year but still. I use the Warps 6.2, 7.0, 7.7. If the sail is fully downhauled I can‘t release the tension anymore.I even had to cut the rope once!!Salt water can not be the issue because I always rinse it with fresh water. For so much money I expected a little more durability. I am now using a standard Severne extension. I am an experienced windsurfer at home in El Yaque. The product is ok for hobby riders or for professionals like Gollo (ok now on RRD) who get everything for free but for me it is more than disappointing because of the short durability.“Well first of all thanks for reaching out and sorry to hear about your issue with one of our products. As you mentioned sailing 200 days a years is clearly beyond an „average“ use. But still the Power.XT 2.0 should be able to handle this. And actually it does. Cause I‘m still using one of the first 2.0 XT’s from 2014 (first year we released version 2.0) which I still keep tracking. With an average use of approx. 30 days per year (on Warp sails until last year) I have a track record of 270 days on it now. And guess what it’s still working as good as on the first day.But since the Power.XT 2.0 features a very sophisticated mechanism it requires a certain maintenance (as mentioned above on this page under TIPS&TRICKS - POWER.XT MAINTENANCE incl. video) .And the more frequently you use the Power.XT the more frequently it needs to be maintained. Also the failure you‘ve experienced could have been solved with an easy DIY repair (see above under TIPS&TRICKS - AFTER A WHILE OF FLAWLESS FUNCTION THE POWER.XT RATCHET DOESN'T RELEASE ANYMORE incl. video)Maybe you give the Power.XT one more chance. Cause with a certain „love&care“ the Power.XT should also be able to withstand even your high-frequent usage.

Hi,. My power xt pulls rope through ok, with no load, once rigged with some tension, rope just slips, if u pull tail from gear wheel, it downhauls ok, and holds rope, I have fitted new rope, is this a sign of a warm gear wheel???Jeremy

Antworten

Hi Jeremy,Thanks for reaching out.I assume you apply pre-tension through pulling on the rope going into the regular cleat before starting to use the ratchet right? Also could you please let me know if releasing the tension with the ratchet still works.

Antworten

Hi Raoul, yes always pre tension through the cleat, can't actually remember whether ratchet released tension i think it did but can't be 100% sure sorryjeremy,

Antworten

Hi Jeremy,Can you please check the following:Behind the (rotating) ratchet cleat there is a leaf sprint which presses the rope into the ratchet cleat. Behind this leaf spring there is a coil spring. Please check if this coil spring got "lost" which is nearly impossible to achieve. If the coil spring is still in place then the only other option is that the leaf spring got bent inside. Both of these possible issues require to disassemble the Power.XT cup. Please refrain from doing this by yourself as you most likely will loose parts (note, there are quite some springs inside the cup) thus destroying your Power.XT. So better get it back to your shop and ask them to do the service for you. In case they are also not experienced enough to do this they can at least send in the extension to be serviced.

Antworten

Hi Raoul, Checked it all out, all looks good( if I had to strip it down it's no issues at all) but, trying one thing first, I believe rope I got was an after market version, got an official duotone length rope coming, stuff I have just seems to shiny, hopefully will sort issues, maybe going cheap doesn't work.😤

Antworten

Hi Jeremy,Well now we're talking. I didn't think you were using a different rope. It is absolutely essential to use ONLY the original rope (like mentioned above under TIPS & TRICKS - EXCHANGING THE POWER.XT ROPE ►VIDEO). Cause the original rope is a custom made rope which got developed to match with the ratchet cleat geometry. Or in other words if you use any other rope it will surely slip. So thanks for bringing up this really important point.

Got ezzy d ring for my hydra so haven't got to re thread rope should make things simpler.

Antworten

HiOn some sails, there is too little space between the lower leach and the downhaul rollers for it to be possible to use a loop ´n´go system. I recently baught a uni XT, and solve this by threading one end of the rope through the rollers on the sail and back, rather than actually "loop ´n go" the way it should work (beacuse u cant push a "loop" between the rollers and the lower leach of the sail). Is this also possible with power XT? I still use a couple of older sails (2011/2012 models) with this problem.

Antworten

Hi Mårten,Welcome to the thread.I hear what you're saying. Please have a look at the Power.XT manual:https://www.duotonesports.c...On page 16 onwards we describe how you can thread the rope through rollers with the Power.XT even when using a twisted tack roller (tack roller perpendicular to the sail). Obviously the same you can do with a regular tack roller. But in any case obviously you'll loose the time saving of the loo-loo-go option. But since you know this already from your Uni.XT it's at least not any worse.

Great answer, thanks!

Hi Raoul, can I use Power XT 2.0 carbon RDM for my race sails with adapter to SDM and MDM ?? Will carbon stand the loads ?

Antworten

Hi Marko,Honestly I wouldn't recommend this. It's not so much about the durability but even the mast extension has a certain bend when put under downhaul tension. And the reduced diameter of the RDM tube simply bends more than a SDM tube. And race sails in particular are very sensible to the correct (mast) bend curve. That's why I would refrain from doing so.

Antworten

Hello, I own the power XT and the base 2.0. I find the the tendon squeaks and makes a lot of use while sailing, jibing, etc. Suggestions on what to use to remove this squeaking noise? I'm not exactly sure what the tendon is made of and know that silicone spray is petroleum based and can damage plastic. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Antworten

My question is related to the strength of the RDM extensions. Witchcraft have changed the holes on their extensions from side position (as industry standard) to forward/rear position as this should reduce the stress and therefore the risk of bending/breaking in the waves. Do you have other experience or why do you stick with the side position?

Antworten

Hi Jo,Thanks for bringing this up. In theory extension holes weaken the tube structure. Therefore the holes shouldn’t be in the same direction where the most load occurs. Now the question is when the max. load occurs, during sailing/jumping or when getting washed? Most likely the heaviest impact occurs when your mast top gets stuck on the ground (reef or sand) when getting washed. Here the max. load direction is „random“ means it only depends where/when the top got stuck. During sailing the forces are pretty much the same in all directions (back and forth vs. sideways) - but in the backward direction you also have the tension/pre-load from the downhaul. Therefore (in theory) the holes shouldn’t be positioned in this direction. But theory is one thing, we are more interested in practical facts. So let’s talk about facts: since we have changed to a sandwich tube construction on the alloy RDM versions of the Power.XT and Uni.XT in 2020 we haven't seen a single broken or bent extension coming back. The same counts for our Aero (now SLS) carbon version. That’s also the reason why both Uni.XT and Power.XT come with a 2 year unconditional warranty (after registration).Merry Xmas to you and everyone else on our product support threads.

Antworten

hello, I saw that your rdm extensions have a single size of 36cm, if I have to mount a sail that requires for example only 4 cm of extension, all the rest of the extension tube will fit inside the mast, it could not be a problem for the mast? could it be damaged? Other brands usually make even shorter extensions..

Antworten

Hi Leonard,Actually it’s vice versa means the less the extension sits inside the mast the higher the "burst" load onto the bottom-end of the mast. That’s also the reason why you need at least 10cm of overlapping even when the extension is set at its maximum length.

thank you.

Please show a video of the proper way to feed the rope threw the power xt pro base. I have two of them and I think the dealer that sent them to me fed it through the improper way. It works but it doesn't release the down hawl way the video does. Please click on this link to see a video of the way mine works.. Hi Joe,Threading the rope depends on your sail means if your sail has a regular tack roller position or a 90° twisted tack roller. Here you can find the threading directions for both kind of sails:https://www.duotonesports.c...

Antworten

Hi Michael,Thanks for reaching out.Actually that's a good question since on alloy booms you shouldn't use the whole extension range - at least if you're a heavy guy and/or are sailing in heavy conditions. With extensions though you can use the whole range. At least our tests and experience have shown no difference in durability by doing so.Hope this helps.PS: I have just added your point to our Tips&Tricks section above on this page - so thanks again for bringing this up.

Hi Duotone. I love my Xt Shox. I used to break about a board every 12 months but since using the Shox for the last 3 years i've never had an issue. I also really rate the design approach you guys take to North/Duotone accessories which are a class above everything else. On the the shox the one big flaw in the design is the ibase. I've just come in off the water with another ibase failure where I had to swim in 250 mtr with separated kit. The issue is where the male ibase attaches to the tendon, the metal is so weak that after about 3 months sailing it wears away and separates. When I went back to my lockup I checked and I have 6 ibases that have all broken in the same way. As I am sure you agree this is very dangerous as a separated rig and board out the back in the winter is not fun. This is also over £300 of broken parts all due to the one design failure. I love the system but I just cant keep using it as with this design as its just too unreliable to use. The shame is this would be an easy to resolve design flaw. Happy to send over the pictures of the damage if that helps

Antworten

Hi Ian,Sorry to hear about your issues with the Shox. As I‘m not 100% sure about your issue could you please send some pix to the following email: customerservice@duotonesports.comWith the new adjustment collar design requiring a thinner tube diameter the Shox system is not compatible anymore with the RDM extensions. We have made this decision also based on the fact that the demand for the Shox RDM version was too low to justify a further development.

thanks for the quick and detailed reply Raoul - I've just emailed - thx

hi raoul. I recently bought a Shox 2.0 RDM upgrade, when I tried to install in my powerXT 1.0 RDM, didnt fit. Does the Shox 2.0 RDM upgrade work with powerXT 2.0 extension? I had no problem upgrading my SDM powerXT. thx

Antworten

Hi Peter,The Shox RDM upgrade only works for the Power.XT 2.0 RDM but only until model year 2019. Cause with the 2020 model we have introduced a new adjustment ring. Unfortunately this new adjustment ring requires a thinner tube diameter including a secondary reinforcement tube. Now there is simply not enough space anymore inside the tube to fit the Shox system.

Antworten

Hi Raoul,I am exactly in the same situation of Ian. Super system, but the metal of the i shox base in not very strong... I also have been in the situation where i had the board in on hand and the sail in the other... Not very safety ! I can also send you some pix if you wantBest regards

Antworten

Hi Christophe,Sorry to hear that. Please make sure to return the Shox system to your dealer to sort this out.
