What’s the difference between our Super Hero and our Super Session?

Most customers change their individual sail and mast sizes according to demand and therefore own a quiver with different brands. When building up your sail quiver, you should try to combine sails that have a similar feel and behavior. The one decisive factor defining how similar or different one sail feels/behaves to another is the position of the draft, in both levels, vertical (high><low) and horizontal (forward><back).

  • Freeride and Slalom sails from the different brands nowadays feel quite similar since at least the horizontal draft position is forward oriented on nearly every sail.
  • The biggest difference though you find with Wave sails.

Basically there are 2 different kind of wave sails:

  1. Draft further back (= balanced pull on both hands) and low (to keep the sail controllable). These sails are the ideal companion for multi-fin boards. Since the balanced pull on both hands makes them super neutral in your hands they shine especially in real down the line conditions. On the other hand they feel very different to modern Freeride and Slalom sails (which are very forward pulling). So if you are using such draft back/low Wave sails only very occasionally as your high wind flat water sail you might be better off with the second type of wave sails.
  2. Draft forward and up (to still generate enough low end power): these sails work on both single- and multi-fin boards. With the forward pulling feeling they are more exiting/direct to sail and have a very similar feeling to modern Freeride and Slalom sails. In addition they are the ideal choice for side-onshore jumping conditions as the higher and forward oriented draft helps/accelerates rotations in the air (especially forward loops).

So when mixing your quiver with different sails/brands you should try to combine sails which have a similar draft position and thus feeling and behavior.

Just follow these guidelines:

  1. You are mainly sailing on flat water. Try to combine your Freeride or Slalom sails with a draft forward/up wave sail. Typical examples are: Duotone Super Session / NP Combat / NP Atlas / Severne Blade / Simmer Icon
  2. You are looking for a wave sail which is super neutral for down the line riding. Try to get some of these: Duotone Super Hero / GA IQ / Goya Banzai / Goya Fringe / NP Zone / Simmer Tricera / Simmer Blacktip
  3. Try to avoid combining draft forward/up- with draft back/low sails in your quiver as these feel and behave extremely different.

Why should I use a DUOTONE mast?

Our sails are designed around DUOTONE masts for maximum performance. You wouldn’t spill ketchup over your rump steak either.

How does the performance change when I rig my 4.7 Super Hero on a 370 mast with longer extension, or my 4.0 Super Hero on a 400 mast?

A shorter mast and longer extension lead to a softer rig. A longer mast and shorter extension will result in a stiffer rig respectively. It depends on which characteristics you prefer. Generally lighter sailors often prefer softer handling, whilst heavier sailors often prefer a stiffer, more direct feeling.

What is the difference between the carbon percentages in the masts?

Firstly, a higher carbon content reduces the weight and increases the responsiveness. The quality of the mast influences the performance of the sail extremely. Please find more information here: https://www.duotonesports.com/windsurfing/hardware/masts/

What’s the difference between Platinum and Platinum Aero masts / booms?

The Platinum Aero is the lightest and most exclusive boom on the market. It’s up to 200g (for masts) and 400g (for booms) lighter than the Platinum version and made of 100% T900 carbon.

What’s the advantage of the POWER.XT 2.0?

In a nutshell and without sales man’s words:

1) You don’t have to sit down to pull the downhaul, so your ass doesn’t get wet.

2) You don’t need a harness / hook / bar to pull strong enough. Especially for larger sails this saves a lot of your energy.

3) You can adjust the downhaul trim on the water.

Imagine: you are in Pozo, the wind picks up, and you’re overpowered. Well – the POWER.XT protects your feet from walking over the rocks to readjust your sail on land.

How does the rope system with the roller system of the Uni.XT work?

The Uni.XT is the only extension which works with any kind of sail. Check out this manual:
