Take your riding to the next level! Built in FULL CUSTOM SLS Technology, designed with our own AI_BOARD_3D software, which enables us to integrate unprecedented complex shaping tasks. The GRIP (Tri) SLS is in a class of its own!

Similar to what we have achieved with the SUPER_HERO D/LAB sails our goal was to create real game changers with our new wave board range.

What we had learned from the SUPER_HERO D/LAB development is that you need to work on all aspects to really make a decisive improvement.

Switching our board technology from the industry-standard semi custom technology to our exclusive FULL CUSTOM PRODUCTION marked the foundation for all the rest to come (see TECH AND SHAPE DETAILS below for details). Because this technology lifted our weight vs. strength ratio to a whole new level. And it finally allowed us to make every single prototype in the factory like we are doing with our sails since over 30 years. Because the best prototype is worth nothing if it can't be reproduced or feels different due to different materials, processes or weight.

To achieve a similar step up in the 3D design we decided to get our own CAD program written. Compared to the industry-standard Shape3D software our DT_BOARD_3D program is much more accurate and lets us perform even super complex shaping tasks like the brand-new SYNCED CURVES CONCEPT.

DESIGN GOALS >> SHAPE DETAILS

Our main goals were to create designs which have a maximum range of use and are easier (less exhausting) plus more radical on the wave.

Basically we wanted to create a more stable platform which is great for getting going and going over the white water. But at the same time the boards should turn even more radical when going down the line, which are opposing features you usually can't combine.

Here are the 3 major shape details our team has developed over the last 2,5 years (see TECH AND SHAPE DETAILS below for all other details):

STABLE YET RADICAL CONCEPT

Our wave boards are 1-2cm wider than most other boards.

  • The increased width results in a more stable platform. This makes our wave boards as stable and energy-saving as a 5 liter bigger board while drifting/floating and going over white water.
  • Most importantly the additional width leads to an increased outline curve. This improves the maneuverability which makes the board turn as radical as a 5 liter smaller board.

The result is an unbeatable broad range of use.

3-STAGE ROCKER

Unlike the usual continuous rocker curve, our entire shape concept is based on a segmented rocker line. This accounts for the fact that the top- and bottom turn are two entirely different maneuvers. While you initiate the bottom turn more over your front foot (depending on the size of the wave) the top turn is only sailed over the back foot. This change in posture is the biggest challenge, especially when learning to wave ride - which becomes much easier with our 3-STAGE ROCKER.

  1. The straight rocker section in-between the front- and back straps creates a super stable sailing stance/platform so that you’re in perfect sync with your board going out or on the wave when switching between bottom- and top turn.
  2. The nose rocker starts just in front of the front straps which helps to engage the front part of the rail when leaning forward on the bottom turn.
  3. KICKSTARTER TAIL: The tail rocker behind the back strap remains very moderate until the last 4-5cm from the tail where it transforms into a progressive tail-kick. This tail-kick generates a perfect water release and in combination with the flat rocker line results in a kickstarter-like acceleration as soon as you push a bit with your back-foot. Plus the tail-kick obviously allows for super tight top turns when snapping back the board with your back-foot.

SYNCED CURVES CONCEPT (rocker><outline><rail)

Outline, rocker and rail shape are the 3 key elements that determine how a board feels and performs. In every rocker- and outline there are spots with more or less curvature. The same applies to the degree of rail curvature which changes considerably. To prevent the 3 curves from working "against" each other, the highest priority is to synchronize these curves. Means that in zones with an increased rocker curve, the outline curve is also increased plus the rails have an increased curvature and vice versa.

  • Increased outline curve, nose rocker and rail curvature around the mast track makes it easier to initiate the bottom turn (front foot initiated)
  • Increased outline curve, tail rocker and rail curvature behind the back strap for more radical top turns (back foot initiated)

To our knowledge this complex 3D task can only be performed by our own AI_BOARD_3D software.

We started testing this concept on existing boards and the improvements to each board were so overwhelming that we incorporated this design feature into all 2026 boards.

Both GRIP 3 and ULTRA GRIP are designed as World Cup Wave boards to satisfy the best of the best on all kind of conditions and spots around the globe. Here are the differences:

BOARD SIZE RECOMMENDATIONS

Please note that due to our new shaping concept, most of our team riders are using approx. 5 liters bigger boards than before. This improves the stability even further while the new shapes are still easier and more radical on the wave.

  • High wind small board: body weight (kg) + 0 >< 5 liters

  • Everyday main board: body weight (kg) + 5 >< 10 liters

  • Float & ride big board: body weight (kg) + 10 >< 15 liters

Comparison Technology Levels

FULL CUSTOM D/LAB
(used on all D/LAB boards)

- For these boards we use our most high-tech raw materials (Carbon, Innegra/Kevlar) resulting in the lowest possible weights, crispest ride sensation and maximum dent-resistance.

FULL CUSTOM SLS
(used on all 2026 SLS boards)

- The SLS construction uses a lower Carbon content and the Innegra is replaced by our exclusive S_GLASS+. This results in a more attractive price level.
- These boards are approx. 300g heavier than the D/LAB boards.
- Due to the FULL CUSTOM CONSTRUCTION the SLS boards are stronger and lighter than comparable boards made in the usual semi custom construction.

FULL CUSTOM PVC-WOOD
(used on ULTRA GRIP, GRIP, ULTRA FreeWave)

- Our most price attractive boards made in FULL CUSTOM CONSTRUCTION. These boards feature wood reinforcements that effectively dampen peak loads.

ROCKER LINE

From the straps back, the GRIP and ULTRA GRIP have very similar rockers with a (rail) tail-kick at the last 4-5cm from the tail.
> Allows both boards to perform super tight top turns.

GRIP
In the mid section between the mast-track and the nose, the GRIP has slightly less nose rocker.
> The lower front two-thirds of the GRIP allows the board to plain up earlier and at a tighter angle to the wind.
> It will also keep its momentum better at lower speeds, more drawn out turns and rounder/flatter/ less powerful waves.
> On the wave this lower front section puts you in a more upright position, making it much easier to engage the front foot during bottom turns.

ULTRA GRIP
Features a higher rocker in front of the straps and at the nose.
> The board needs more power to maintain its speed. Therefore it requires a more powerful wave and/or wind.
> In marginal conditions, you will end up having to bare off the wind more to keep your speed. Therefore, it is less suitable for smaller onshore waves.
> However, on a powerful ground-swell wave, the board will push back less and tends to sink more into the wave. This gives you more control on a full rail turn and the board will want to turn harder the harder you engage it.

BOTTOM SHAPE

Both boards feature a V double-concave in the front.
> Improves riding comfort, control going out and upwind performance.

GRIP
Maintains an alternating V throughout the entire length.
> The V acts like a seesaw, making it easier to put the board onto the rail even in slower waves.

ULTRA GRIP
The bottom transforms into a flat double concave underneath the feet, followed by a mono concave towards the tail.
> Provides additional control even during high-speed rail-to-rail turns on fast ground-swell waves.

OUTLINE

GRIP
Features a wider nose-area.
> Generates more lift when deeper in the water and gives the rail more resistance when in the water, giving you more power/drive on smaller or less powerful surf.

ULTRA GRIP
Features a narrower nose outline.
> Gives you more control during the bottom turn at higher speed in bigger ground-swell waves.

TAIL SHAPE

GRIP
Features a wider tail.
> Provides better acceleration and more counter-pressure when jumping or during turns on slower waves.

ULTRA GRIP
Features a narrower tail.
> Improves control in higher ground-swell waves.

QUAD SETUP

Ideal for side/side-off and/or strong current as it gives you more grip especially for lighter riders and smaller boards.
Attention: does not work well in onshore conditions since the 4 fins produce extra drag and are not ideal for slashy turns especially in slower waves.

TRI SETUP

Ideal for side/side-on conditions as it allows you to go more vertical and looser in your turns. Keep in mind in higher waves a Tri setup requires a more committed vertical riding style.

TechFeature

AI_Board_3D

In contrast to the industry-standard Shape3d program, our own exclusive 3D CAD software is based on math data-driven input.

This allows us to cross-check the outcome using artificial intelligence to ensure maximum precision.

Apart from being much more accurate and faster, complex 3D design tasks such as our ground-breaking SYNCED CURVES CONCEPT would otherwise have been simply impossible to realize.

FULL CUSTOM SLS TECHNOLOGY

The FULL CUSTOM SLS TECHNOLOGY is a full custom technology which is one hundred percent identical to high-end custom made boards.

Instead of using a mould to bring the EPS foam core into its final shape each EPS block gets CNC milled. This ensures maximum precision and saves weight.

Same as with high-end custom board makers the major advantage lays in the processing. We call this SINGLE PROCESS TECHNOLOGY and it is the key to our industry-leading weight-strength ratio. Instead of combining working steps to save time and money every single step follows its individual process. So for example instead of joining the PVC sandwich with the EPS core in a single shot we vacuum-bag the top and bottom PVC shields with the EPS core separately.

For all SLS boards we use our most sophisticated layup which consists of more than 50 individual parts and components.

The major difference compared to the FULL CUSTOM D/LAB TECHNOLOGY is the S-glass on the PVC sandwich for the SLS boards (like most wave boards on the market), while the D/LAB boards are equipped with a carbon-Innegra layer on the outside. Innegra is the best composite fibre to prevent dents. Dents caused by the mast touching the board (during catapults or when getting washed) are mainly an aesthetic issue. But if you want a board that stays dent-free, you should opt for the D/LAB version.

Last but not least even every single board size has an individual layup. That’s the final stage of individualization in construction.

Yet all of this is achieved without any sacrifice in durability since we always follow our core motto LIGHT DONE RIGHT.

Deck Shape

FLAT SPOT DECK SHAPE

The centre of the deck is completely flat, which is exactly where you stand before getting on to the plane. Similar to standing on a jetty, this provides a maximum solid platform outside the footstraps, especially in float & ride conditions. Along the footstraps, the deck transitions into a more domed shape for added control and riding comfort.

Outline

STABLE YET RADICAL CONCEPT

Our wave boards are approx. 1-2cm wider than most other boards.

>> The increased width results in a more stable platform. This makes our wave boards as stable as a 5 liter bigger board while drifting/floating and going over white water.

>> Most importantly the additional width leads to an increased outline curve. This improves the maneuverability which makes the board turn as radical as a 5 liter smaller board.

The result is an unbeatable broad range of use.

Rail Shape

POSITIVE RAIL CONCEPT

Instead of going for ultra thin rails our rails have a certain minimum radius/volume. This prevents the rail from burying too deep into the water and starting to blend thus loosing grip. Our POSITIVE RAILS generate a certain counter pressure (positive feedback) to be able to lean into the turn with full commitment.

HAWAIIAN TAIL RAILS (thin yet square-er than usual)

The vertical surface of the apex helps to prevent the thinner rail from digging too deeply, as it provides more lateral resistance than a rounder or knife-ier rail profile. Prevents sucking the tail down causing drag.

WAVE TUCK

We have increased the tuck line in the center and front which enables to use the entire rail for additional drive during bottom turns. Also the tuck edge got a bit softer which makes the board less nervous/bouncy when going down a choppy wave.

Duotone Premium Strap 2.0

High quality closed cell neoprene for maximum longevity. Only black Lycra coating guarantees maximum comfort as well as maximum durability. The strap features measurement markings to allow you to quickly set up and replicate your individual size. Board specific attachments:

> All World Cup boards come equipped with double-screw plugs to prevent any twist and ensuring the most direct connection to the board

> All other boards come equipped with single-screw plugs to allow a faster repositioning of the straps plus a more comfortable ride due to a certain "give"

NEW - Completely revised and unique design:

+ 20% less weight

+ Significantly reduced elongation for direct connection and to avoid slipping in too far with risk of injury

+ Improved preforming for quick and easy assembly

Duotone Pro Pads

8-10mm thick duo density EVA (depending on the board type) provides best dampening comfort and control. The higher-density outer layer features our signature heat pressed diamond groove pattern that protects the EVA against abrasion and provides maximum grip level and connection to the board. We only select EVA colours which don't look dirty after use and will also resist fading after hours in the sun.

Tail Design

MOON TAIL

The Moon Tail behaves very similar to a swallow tail which offers enough counter-pressure for sharp and most pivotal turns. But due to the inverted curve it offers even more grip/hold and control especially in higher waves.

Plug & Shred

All our center and side fin boxes offer an adjustability of only 10 mm. This saves over 100g of weight and avoids misplacing your fins which can easily turn a magic board into an under-performer.

Extensive testing with all our team riders and "normal customers" has proven that this adjustability works for everyone.

Markings at the fin boxes as well as on the mast track, indicating PRO or CONTROL, give you a clear guideline for the correct trim.

Rocker Line

3-STAGE ROCKER

Unlike the usual continuous rocker curve, our entire shape concept is based on a segmented rocker line. This accounts for the fact that the top- and bottom turn are two entirely different maneuvers. While you initiate the bottom turn more over your front foot (depending on the size of the wave) the top turn is only sailed over the back foot. Plus the tail-kick obviously allows for super tight top turns when snapping back the board with your back-foot.

Bottom Shape

Continuous double concave (front to back) with alternating V.

>> Increased V in the front improves the riding comfort, the control going out and the upwind performance.

>> Between the front straps and fin boxes the V flattens out to ensure a stable riding position.

>> Towards the tail the V is gradually increasing which results in a disconnected rocker (flatter rocker line in the center with increased rocker along the rail). The flatter center rocker results in improved planing power while the increased rail rocker improves the water release and turn-ability.

SYNCED CURVES CONCEPT

Outline, rocker and rail shape are the 3 key elements that determine how a board feels and performs. In every rocker- and outline there are spots with more or less curvature. The same applies to the degree of rail curvature which changes considerably. To prevent the 3 curves from working "against" each other, the highest priority is to synchronize these curves. Mini Mast-Track

The mini mast-track reduces the weight in the critical nose area. It also reduces the risk to misplace your mast base while still providing just the right amount of length adjustment for all riding styles and sail sizes.

THE RANGE IS JUST INSANE: WITH MY CURRENT BODY WEIGHT OF 76 KG THE 84 IS MY GO TO BOARD FROM FLOAT&RIDE 5.3 CONDITIONS UP TO MAXED OUT 4.0 POZO CONDITIONS. THE EXTRA VOLUME MAKES EVERYTHING SO MUCH EASIER WHILE ON THE WAVE IT TURNS LIKE A 5 LITER SMALLER BOARD. SOUNDS REALLY UNBELIEVABLE BUT THE GRIP (TRI) IS SIMPLY THE BEST BOARD I HAVE EVER SAILED!«

BUT EVEN FOR REGULAR JIBES THE GRIP (TRI) IS SO MUCH EASIER AS IT REQUIRES MUCH LESS PRESSURE TO TURN, EVEN IN CHOPPY CONDITIONS.«
