Young Blood Kiteboarding

Young Blood is a project of the action sports brands Duotone, ION and Fanatic. The vision is to awaken the passion of kids and youth ages 8 to 18 for action sports like kitesurfing, Foil Wing, SUP and biking and to teach them the right technique to safely enjoy the sport.

We want to make it easier for the next generation to enter the world of action sports, by organizing special events and to give them a chance to learn from professionals. Additionally, we’re using this platform to spot talent and to support it. Furthermore, we want to show kids, youth, and parents the positive effects that sports can have on their body and mind like feeling healthy, gaining confidence, increasing mental strength & focus.

YOUNG BLOOD CAMP EGYPT 2022

After a few years of hiatus, we at Duotone couldn’t wait to revive our prolific Young Blood initiative and help provide the next generation with many of the tools they will need to become professional athletes. Supporting the initiative and being really passionate about helping young people realise their full potential, our partner Porsche was also super excited . Together we picked El Gouna, Egypt, as the location for a new Young Blood Camp. Inviting 11 riders from 8 different countries and staying at the Three Corners Rihanna Resort, a Nubian-style architectural masterpiece, the team we brought together was rather comprehensive: two of our legendary team riders Aaron Hadlow and Reno Romeu, a film crew, top kite instructors, a fitness coach and off-the-water content mentors.

DUOTONE’S YOUNG BLOOD INITIATIVE

Duotone's vision has always been to continuously push the sport to the next level by developing and manufacturing the most advanced equipment as well as supporting the upcoming youth. With the latter in mind, we founded the Young Blood initiative already in 2006. Many of today’s accomplished riders came out of previously held Young Blood Camps. Reno Romeu or 5x World Champion Airton Cozzolino, who have been on the team since the age of 14 and 13 are the epitome of our vision and efforts. Numerous other riders who have gone on to do great things after being part of the Young Blood initiative.

We are very grateful for Porsche’s ongoing support of this initiative, together it is growing from strength to strength. The camp’s elaborately designed curriculum includes topics such as mental & physical training, kitesurfing technique, social media training, mentoring by professional Porsche race car driver Simona de Silvestro, knowledge about the brand’s products and how to be part of a successful photo and film shoot. A number of our freshest Young Bloods have already made their mark on the international competition scene. Such as Camille Losserand and Keanu Mertens, both GKA Youth World Champions (Strapless Freestyle) 2021, Andres Principi reigning GKA Big Air World Champion and Lorenzo Casati Red Bull King of the Air champ, as well as Edgar Ulrich, the U19 World Champion in 2018 and U18 French Champion in 2020.

It’s very important to us to continue to spread the message to the next generation of athletes how important it is to protect our “playgrounds” and the individual actions that can collectively make a big impact. As part of the new Young Bloods project, we will incorporate various sustainability initiatives like beach clean ups and will communicate our shared goals to reduce our carbon footprint as well as limiting single use of raw materials. We invite this next generation of athletes to join us in learning how to be a friend to our environment and become the next stewards of our beloved playgrounds.
