The motor contains four stainless steel bearings that ensure the motor bell rotates smoothly along with the propeller. These bearings can wear out over time and should therefore be replaced regularly. If the drive unit makes strange noises or no longer runs smoothly, it’s time to change the bearings. To replace the bearings, you will need a special tool, which we offer along with the Foil Assist maintenance tools. In our Help Center, you will also find a detailed guide and a helpful instructional video on how to replace the bearings.
Warning: Rinse the bearings thoroughly with fresh water after each use. Allow them to dry completely, and then apply a thin layer of WD-40 Specialist Penetrant or an equivalent marine lubricant to ensure their longevity.
