Sustainability is the most important and pressing challenge of todays mankind to secure a livable mother earth for future generations to come!
Over the last 50 years Windsurfing has developed into a super high tech sport. But let's face it despite what others might tell you with the exception of aluminium booms and extensions Windsurfing products are a "mixture of petrol-based plastic trash". And most times up to 100% of this plastic trash are non-recycled (means "freshly produced") plastics.
At least as of today there are no eco-friendly substitutes existing offering the minimum requirements necessary to design modern Windsurfing products. Or why do you think no one wants to sail with wooden booms, aluminium masts or stretchy sails made of woven fabrics anymore?
There is only one sustainable way out of this dilemma:
MAKING LONGER LASTING PRODUCTS (LONGEVITY = SUSTAINABILITY)
A high performance product that lasts longer and best case can even be put into additional use on the second hand market is the best and only way to conserve the resources of our earth.
Of course light components have a massive impact on the performance and handling of your rig. That's why light weight is always on our briefing list when designing and engineering new products. And DUOTONE products are among or in many cases are the lightest on the market.
But durability and longevity were and will ALWAYS be on top of our priority list. Our industry leading warranty extensions bear witness to this philosophy:
- 2 year unconditional warranty on almost every hardware product (masts, booms and extensions+bases).
- 5 year warranty on 80% of our sails.
On sails we cannot emphasize enough that especially reducing the thickness of the monofilm and the XPly laminate has a radical influence on the longevity/sustainability. Reducing the film thickness by 50% reduces the UV-stability by 70%. Just to shortterm impress magazine testers or customers some brands use up to 70% thinner laminates/films than we do. This is not our understanding of sustainability.

However, since we are fully aware of the importance of sustainability, we cannot simply stop here.
>> Only we have stopped using any plastic for packaging our sails. This saves approx. 5 sqm of plastic film and foam per sail.
>> Only our aluminium products (booms and extensions+bases) are manufactured in a CO2 neutral production facility.
>> Only our aluminium products (booms and extensions+bases) are produced in Germany using 100% European raw materials in order to keep shipping distances (to our manufacture and then to our central warehouse) at a minimum.
>> Only our sail bags are made out of 100% recycled plastic.
>> Only we compensate all carbon emissions caused by our sails during manufacture and transport by supporting a hydropower carbon offset project in Sri Lanka, the country where our sails are produced.
UNI.XT – the most technically advanced and yet the most lightweight standard aluminium extension we have ever built. Now also built using SLS carbon technology to create the most lightweight extension in the world.
When it comes to standard extensions, everyone has probably experienced some nasty surprises at some point. They rarely fit with the rope alignment on the sail, most of them need high downhaul forces, and more often than not the mechanism for adjusting the height is extremely fiddly. Before designing the UNI.XT we analysed all of these issues in detail and came up with workable solutions. The strong and super-solid UNI.XT extension may look like numerous other standard extensions at first glance, yet it is replete with innovations which make it a far superior product. The latest version comes with a completely new adjustment ring, which offers a unique feature: based on the tried-and-tested SDM adjustment ring, the RDM version now for the first time ensures that the aluminum tube does not come into contact with the mast anymore, which avoids any contact corrosion. No other RDM extension can offer that! In order to guarantee the same durability despite the reduced diameter, a double-walled sandwich construction of 7075 aluminum outer tube and ovalized T8 inner tube is used (patent pending).
The global pandemic continues to cause raw material shortages, restrictions at our manufacturers and greatly extended shipping times, which doesn’t allow a constant and planned flow of deliveries. Therefore please note that although we are doing everything we can to get you the equipment you want, availability is limited, especially at product launches.
The UNI.XT allows the most universal usage of any extension out there. With its different thread options it fits to any sail brand and -model without the rope ever getting crossed or tangled.
In addition you can either use all 3 rollers at the sail plus the 2 rollers at the base (THREAD THROUGH OPTION = 6:1 power-ratio).
Or you just loop the rope through the 2 outside rollers at the sail and over 1 of the rollers at the base (LOOP LOOP GO OPTION = 4:1 power-ratio).
When designing the UNI.XT we measured the downhaul forces of both options on all kind of sails.

With alloy booms we don't recommend to use the whole extension range - at least if you're a heavy guy and/or are sailing in heavy conditions.
However with mast extensions you can use the entire range. At least our tests and experience have shown no difference in durability by doing so.

iSNAP 2.0Based on the original SDM adjustment ring the iSNAP 2.0 offers some unique benefits:
1. The extension tube cannot come in contact with the mast anymore thus preventing any contact corrosion. No other RDM extension can do this!
2. The 2-component pins feature a synthetic head which prevents the tube from being damaged during the adjustment process.
3. The iSNAP 2.0 is the lightest adjustment system on earth. Yet the proven construction provides maximum durability.
Attention: the RDM iSNAP 2.0 is NOT compatible with older RDM extensions (season 2019 and older).
Double Foot Trim30% POWER SAVING! In terms of rigging comfort the UNI.XT offers much more than existing standard extensions. In order to ensure the most effective tensioning of the downhaul we have designed the cup under ergonomic points of view incorporating the DOUBLE.FOOT.TRIM. Through the intelligent positioning of the cleat, for the first time it is now possible to prop with both feet against the cup, and thus cope far greater forces avoiding lower back strain. Now you can use the same technique for the downhauling as in rowing, where you naturally also use both feet to mobilize maximum power through pushing with the feet rather than pulling through your back. That increases the power efficiency by approx. 30% compared to the usual one foot operation!
Shox Upgrade KitPIONEERING DAMPING TECHNOLOGY! All UNI.XT and POWER.XT 2.0 extensions can be upgraded with the unique Duotone SHOX suspension system (except AERO). SHOX is the first integrated shock absorber, which adds a chassis to the board similar to a full-suspension on a mountain bike. Especially in choppy conditions it smooths out the board and the rig, absorbing chop and the impact after landing. Tests in all leading Windsurf-magazines have proven that the rig doesn’t bump, the rider can convert the wind power much more effective into acceleration making you a proven 2-3 knots faster, and also preserves the equipment and your joints. Whether speed, racing or freeride, the SHOX.UPGRADE.KIT definitely guarantees more control, more speed and more comfort.
During wave sailing the SHOX suspension system provides cushioned landings and increased board control when going down-the-line as well as when crossing the white water. The upgrade is easily done in a few simple steps. The new, very stiff cup ensures that the suspension tube runs with absolutely no friction, the damping elements respond more sensitively and thereby creates a more enjoyable ride. Storage SlotAVOIDS TANGLED ROPES! All UNI.XT and POWER.XT 2.0 feature a slotted top cap. This way you can get rid of the excess rope during storage and transportation.
Rapid Release UNI.XT 2.0INSTANT DE-RIGGING! Due to the modified position of the standard cleat, just place one foot on the extension and pull the rope with a short jerk out of the cleat – done.
2 Thread System UNI.XTNOW COMPATIBLE WITH ALL SAIL BRANDS! The UNI.XT features a stainless-steel open pulley enabling loop-loop-go rigging – the fastest and most comfortable way to rig your sail!
