THE ALOHA CLASSIC

The Aloha Classic proved to be a challenging event this year, with conditions far from straightforward. After several lay days spent waiting for the right conditions, lighter winds finally made an appearance, allowing the competition to reach a result in all classes.

There were some great performances to celebrate, with Maria Behrens securing another podium finish in Maui this year! Cesar Filippi wrapped up his final Pro Junior event with an impressive 2nd place, closely followed by teammate Leon Maethner in 3rd. Liam Dunkerbeck also delivered a strong performance, eventually finishing 7th overall.

We caught up with Maria, Cesar and Liam to hear about their experiences, the challenges they faced, and how they look back on this year's Aloha Classic!

Maria Behrens: 'I’m really stoked to be taking home another podium on Maui and my third podium on tour!

At the beginning of the event I had almost given up hope that we would get to compete, so I am happy we did in the end. The wind was very light, making it very challenging conditions in the final. I was using my biggest gear which is my 76l Ultra Grip and my Super Hero DLAB 4.5 which safed me in those floaty conditions.

It’s a shame, they chose to run the final in such light conditions making it hard to show my full potential like I did in my previous heats. But thats just part of competing.

Still, this result and placing 3rd in the World Ranking motivates me a lot for the next event in Chile and I can't wait to show it!'

Cesar Filippi: 'I couldn’t be happier with my performance. I managed to finish 2nd in the Pro Junior division and share the podium with my friend Leon!

As for the Pro division, I made it through the Challenger rounds, winning all three of my heats and qualifying directly for the main fleet. Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned in my first round, with extremely tricky conditions and barely any wind.

Watching the other pros compete was also incredible! The level was insanely high, which was really motivating and inspiring to see.

Next up for me is school! Time to get back to reality 🫠'

Liam Dunkerbeck: 'I’m really happy with my performance and with how all my gear worked in both light and big conditions at Ho’okipa. It’s probably one of the most challenging faces of the spot! Sitting in 6th place for Chile is a really good position to be in, especially because the rankings are so tight and anything can happen. I arrived two weeks ahead of the event to get familiar with the conditions and make sure everything was dialled in before the final stop of the year.”

Cesar Filippi

»For me, it’s also about performing at my best, heat by I couldn’t be happier with my performance. I managed to finish 2nd in the Pro Junior division and share the podium with my friend Leon! «

— Cesar Filippi

A big congratulations also goes out to all the other Duotone riders who gave it their all and pushed hard throughout the event! We're looking forward to see you in action again in the last event in Chile!
