2025 PWA WAVE TOUR PREVIEW

We are excited to finally see the wave team in action during the first event of the year, taking place from March 23rd to April 6th. Team Duotone will be represented by three men: Victor Fernandez, Liam Dunkerbeck, and Tobias Bjornaa, as well as three women: Alexia Kiefer, Maria Behrens, and Lisa Wermeister.

As a preview for the season, we caught up with the team to show you where we can see them in action and how the title will be decided.

Chile (23 March- 6 April)

Alexia Kiefer:
'The first event of the 2025 World Tour takes place in Matanzas, Chile—a spot known for its port tack wave riding, big waves, light winds, and the need for larger gear. Matanzas holds a special place in my heart, as it’s where I earned my first-ever podium finish in the women’s fleet in 2024. I still remember the incredible moment of coming out of the water, thinking I had secured second place—a feeling I will never forget. I can only hope to relive that experience again this year.'

Gran Canaria (5 - 13 July)

Liam Dunkerbeck:
'Pozo is famous for its powerful summer winds (can easily be 40-50 knots), making it the most extreme stop on tour for big jumps and wave tricks. It’s my home spot, where I grew up and know every detail of the conditions. Competing here is always special. Last year, I was slightly disappointed with my 5th place, as I believed I had the potential for the podium. This year, I’m more determined than ever to make it happen and push my limits in front of my home crowd.'

Victor Fernandez:
'In El Médano, we usually sail at the Cabezo spot, where the World Cup takes place. It’s a rocky spot with a small entrance and significant changes in the waves depending on the tides. The wind is side-onshore, and the most common sail sizes I use are 4.7/5.0, paired with a 93/87L board. The wave is short but punchy—perfect for trying all wave tricks. On the way out, you get steep ramps to fly high, especially on stronger days. I have won the PWA World Cup in El Médano three times, and I feel deeply connected to this wave.'

Sylt (26 sept - 5 October)

Maria Behrens:
'The conditions are mostly onshore and cold, making it far from ideal for wave sailing. However, this is the biggest event on tour, and there are thousands of spectators who come to enjoy watching the jumps and wave riding, so it’s an experience you can’t miss. I’m super happy to have secured my first-ever podium finish at such a challenging spot!'

Maui (13 - 24 October)

Lisa Wermeister:
'This is the third time I've been to Maui, and this spot remains one of my favorites! It is a legendary place for windsurfing, with powerful waves and moderate wind—ideal for wave riding. The conditions can be demanding, but for those who love waves, it’s a true playground.

My best memory? The Aloha Classic 2024, during my first heat. The waves were huge, and the wind was very light. I was extremely stressed at the thought of going into the water because I had never sailed in such impressive conditions. But once I got over the waves, I gained confidence, and everything went well. I felt good with my 4.7 and 76L setup: I finished first in my heat and caught the best wave of the day—the biggest of my life!'

PWA / IWT Ranking:

Tobais Bjornaa:
'The PWA/WWT Wave Tour ranks riders based on their results in multiple events throughout the season. Each competition follows an elimination format, where riders compete in heats judged on wave riding and jumps. Points are awarded based on placement: the winner gets 10,000 points, second place 8,500 points, third place 7,650 points, and so on. The goal is to earn the highest total points by the end of the season. To determine the overall ranking, a rider’s best four results from the season are counted. The rider with the highest combined score becomes the PWA/WWT Wave World Champion. In the case of a tie, rankings are decided by head-to-head results, the best single event result, or performance in the final event.

Personally, I'm really excited to kick off the tour in Chile for the first 5-star event of the year! It's coming up in a few weeks, and it will be my first time there. I will be competing in both the Pro Youth U21 and Men's Division. I'm really looking forward to doing most of the tour this year and feel ready to give my absolute best!'
