Tom Auber x Cape Verde
A High-Performance Session in World-Class Waves.
Wave-driven and fuelled by passion – before and after the GWA Wave World Cup, Tom Auber spent some time in Cape Verde to chase perfect lines and explore the island’s full wave potential. From sunset sessions to powerful offshores, this trip was all about reconnecting with a pretty challenging wave spot.

Your video from Cape Verde is seriously inspiring. What made this trip so special for you?
Cape Verde holds a special place in my heart. My parents took my brother and me there a few years ago—it was one of our best family trips. Since then, we've tried to spend as much time there as possible every winter. It’s a truly magical place with incredible conditions.
You were riding The Float in this edit — what makes it your go-to wing for wave sessions?
I was lucky to receive two Float wings just before the trip: a 3.5 and a 4.0. They’ve got such a wide wind range that I could ride every single day for three weeks—from 10 to 30 knots. The wing’s stability while free-flying made it perfect for maximizing every wave session in Cape Verde.
Which board and foil setup did you use?
At 67kg, my go-to board is the Sky Style 4'5" with 45 liters of volume. For the foil, I used the 84cm Slim D/LAB mast and switched between the Carve D/LAB 3.0 650 and 500 depending on wave size. To enhance performance, I paired them with the D/LAB 37 fuselage and the S165 stabilizer

»Cape Verde is a place close to my heart—perfect waves, daily sessions with the Float, and unforgettable sunset rides made this trip truly special.«
The style of the video feels very natural. How did the wave dynamics in Cape Verde compare to other spots you’ve ridden?
That’s one of the cool things about being on an island—you can always find a good spot no matter the swell direction. During this trip, we had everything from 1-meter onshore wind waves to perfect 3-meter offshore conditions. That variety makes destinations like this so exciting to explore
Was there a standout session or moment that really stuck with you?
Definitely the sunset sessions with offshore winds. Those moments were absolutely magical and something I’ll never forget.
