With a total area of 9984670 square kilometers, Canada is the second largest country in the world after Russia and ahead of the USA and China. Canada takes up about 41%of North America and is almost as big as the whole of Europe. Canada has over 2million lakes – 563 greater than 100km2 –which ismore than any other country, containingmuch of the world’s fresh water. Additionally, Canada has the longest coastline in the world, with a total length of 243042 kilometres.
