With its enormous size and only 35 million inhabitants, Canada has the ninth lowest population density in the world, averaging only 3.9 inhabitants per square kilometer. Only the regions near the 350km long border with the USA are densely populated. A great deal of the country to the north, on the other hand, is virtually uninhabited – a deserted wilderness overtaken by forest.
