Nia Suardiaz Claims Victory in Tarifa
GWA WORLD CUP TARIFA
Reigning Surf-Freestyle World Champion, Spain's Nia Suardiaz, strengthened her hold on another title with a victory at the GWA Wingfoil World Cup during the Tarifa Wing Pro on her home waters. The 17-year-old celebrated her Surf-Freestyle event win in Tarifa in front of her family and friends, coming less than a month after her win in France. This victory places her in a strong position at the midpoint of the year's schedule, which includes four stops.
Women's Surf-Freestyle
Nia did not make the mistake she made in her earlier semi-final and came out of the blocks fast, with a 7.33 for a Backflip to open the heat. From there she never looked back, putting up big numbers that took her total 19.86 from a possible 30.
Mar de Arce started strong and appeared to be on track for the win. The final was closely contested. Mar started strong and consistently scored well, finishing third.
Results:

»I’m so happy to win here at home in Tarifa with my friends and family. The wind was light in the beginning, but it picked up to a nice and turned into strong Poniente by the afternoon for the final. It was perfect for showing all my tricks in my heats.«
Men's Surf-Freestyle
Big shoutout to our young athletes Tom and Aleks Acherer, who finished 7th and 9th respectively, displaying impressive moves! Special mention to Aleks, who just now returned to Wing Foil water training after a ski accident in December where he broke his leg. This was his first competition since the accident—expect more from him! Tarifa's own Jerome Cloetens secured a 9th place finish as well.
