»There are a few trips in life that bring up a special feeling, when booking flights, when checking out locations on Google Maps way before actually getting on a plane. The Bahamas was definitely one of those for me!«
Encouraged by our explorations near the house, the team headed to a small, secluded island about a mile and a half from the main beach for a photoshoot. This pristine destination presented a unique logistical challenge: how to transport the crew and equipment without a boat.
Upon arriving, the untouched beauty and serenity of the island, punctuated by our gear and laughter, created an idyllic setting for unforgettable moments.
The tranquility of the island was just the beginning. The days unfolded in the water, and break times were spent on this small island, half rocky, half sandy.
Exploring further, the clear waters around San Salvador revealed a rich tapestry of marine life, including corals, rays, fish, turtles, and small reef sharks. Highlights included Gollito’s successful fishing in the lagoon, providing food and a shared experience that brought the team closer to nature and each other.
From the serene beachfront house to the solitude of the distant island, the time they spent in San Salvador was an unforgettable journey. Gliding over the ocean amidst pristine beauty, they have gained a deeper appreciation for this prescious landscape.
The island's low population density and lack of large stores meant to organize food well in advance, relying on special deliveries. This absence of distractions helped focus on their main goal: practicing Wing Foiling and crreating content.
Days began with early wake-up calls, breakfast at dawn, and straight into the water to catch the morning breeze. The team explored the bay between the main island and surrounding islets, often stopping for breaks on the island across the bay.
The main Wing Foil spot, 1.5 km from our beach, presented a challenge for our crew. Both jet skis broke down on the first day of shooting, so the team creatively transported the equipment across the bay, turning logistical issues into new adventures which the team managed very well!
»It was a dream for me to be invited on this trip with my teammates. First, being back with the Duotone team since last year felt like coming home, and joining the photoshoot was the topping to the cake. I enjoyed every moment with the crew on this island. The location was incredible - we winged right from our doorstep, and I even caught some fish for dinner just a few meters from the beach! Of course, I cooked it after myself, growing up on an island myself I know what to do.«
Spot & Wind:
The Snow Bay Beach lagoon on San Salvador is arguably the best spot for Wing Foiling on the island. Thanks to the reef, the lagoon is shallow and offers a standing area, making it a paradise for all skill levels. There's also a Kite and Wing Foil school on site. The lagoon stretches over 1.5km, and with the trade winds, it becomes an ideal spot for freeriders, freestylers, and beginners from October to April. During the peak wind season, you can expect wind speeds of 15 to 30 knots. Not daily, but on average 4-5 times per week, you'll get your money's worth. In strong winds, you might need a shorty for the evening session. Otherwise, a lycra or neoprene top is usually sufficient. The area around Snow Bay is never overcrowded with water sports enthusiasts. Every now and then, you might meet a few other Kiters and Wing Foilers.
»What struck me the most upon arriving here from Germany’s winter was the breathtaking turquoise water, a color so vivid it seemed almost unreal. The beaches are endless, each one more stunning than the last, no one around. We winged for miles, gliding over the crystal-clear waters without encountering another soul. It felt like a dream—a perfect escape into untouched nature and serene beauty.«
