Choosing the right foil is one of the most important factors for your e-Foiling experience. The size, shape, and profile of a hydrofoil directly influence lift, stability, speed, maneuverability, and overall riding comfort. Larger foils provide early lift and maximum stability for beginners, while smaller, performance-oriented foils offer higher speeds and a more dynamic ride for experienced riders.

Finding the right foil set-up, given our comprehensive foil range with different products for all foil disciplines, seems truly challenging. This is our suggested path for choosing your foil:

A foil with a large front wing and stable flight characteristics is best suited for beginners. In combination with the Foil Cruise mast, a front wing size between 1300 and 1600 cm² is ideal for learning. The fuselage length plays a key role in creating a stable and easy-to-control ride. A longer fuselage, between 66 and 74 cm, provides greater stability and makes it easier for beginners to control the foil during the flight phase. The Foil Cruise mast is shorter than the Foil Assist mast to help prevent higher flights and create a more direct connection between the foil and the board. Suitable mast lengths for beginners are between 70 and 80 cm.

The design parameters of a foil include wing area, profile, aspect ratio, fuselage length and mast length. These characteristics influence the lift, stability, maneuverability and speed of the foil.

- More surface area - more lift, less surface area - less lift

- Higher aspect ratio - better planing characteristics, lower aspect ratio - more maneuverable handling

- Longer fuselage - more directional stability, shorter fuselage - more maneuverability and agility

Low aspect foils have a shorter wingspan and are rounder, allowing maneuverability and lift at lower speeds. Medium aspect ratio foils offer a good balance between lift, speed and maneuverability and are therefore versatile for different conditions.

High aspect foils have a larger wingspan, better glide characteristics and remain flying at lower speeds compared to low aspect foils. This makes them particularly suitable for maximizing efficiency and performance, especially in lighter winds, smaller waves and for pumpfoiling.

Beginners should opt for a medium or longer fuselage (66 cm or 74 cm) for increased stability and easier control. Pairing it with a shorter mast, such as the 76 cm Foil Cruise option, makes it easier to manage both the board and your flight height while learning.

More experienced foilers can choose their fuselage length based on their preferred riding style. Shorter fuselages provide a more agile and responsive feel, while longer fuselages offer greater directional stability at higher speeds.

Our Foil Assist and Foil Cruise masts are available in lengths from 76 cm to 84 cm. The Foil Cruise masts are generally shorter, helping to keep flight height lower and making the ride less intimidating for beginners. All Foil Assist masts feature an 84 cm length, providing excellent versatility across a wide range of conditions. This longer mast allows for comfortable riding in small to larger swell, choppy water, and is equally suited for prone, wake, downwind, and light-wind wing foiling.

Aluminum masts offer solid performance with proven quality and durability and are the first choice when looking for an attractively priced set, especially at the beginning. In contrast, carbon masts save up to 20% weight and have some advantages in terms of profile width and depth.

All Duotone Foil Assist carbon masts (D/LAB) feature a 3BS (Three-Bolt System) connection to the fuselage. This makes them compatible with our D/LAB front wings and D/LAB (Monobloc) tails, the Aero AL 3BS as well as the former Fanatic and Duotone carbon fuselages.

To connect a fuselage to an aluminum Foil Assist or Foil Cruise mast, a fuselage adapter is required. In addition to the Duotone adapter (3BS connection), we offer a range of adapters that allow you to combine the eMast with selected non-Duotone foils.
