Two girls. Bali’s waves. And the moment when fear becomes part of the ride.

Fear is part of the ocean. So is the feeling of going anyway.

For Chiara Socin and Paula Novotna, Bali became more than a destination. It became a playground, a challenge and a place to test the limits of what felt comfortable — one wave at a time.

With their foils packed and no real plan beyond chasing good conditions, they set out to explore the island, moving from one spot to another and discovering a different side of Bali along the way.

There were long scooter rides, early starts, laughs between sessions and the kind of moments that make a trip memorable even when there are no waves.

But then the ocean gets bigger.

WHEN THE WAVES GET SERIOUS

There is a particular moment before a wave.

You can see it coming. You know what you could do. And for a second, you also know exactly what could go wrong.

That moment is part of surfing. And it becomes even more present when you’re riding a foil.

The speed is different. The commitment is different. And when the waves start to get bigger and more powerful, confidence isn’t simply about knowing how to ride.

It’s about trusting yourself.

Bali has no shortage of waves that demand that kind of commitment.

From Uluwatu to the other breaks explored along the way, every spot brought something different — and every session came with its own question:

TRUST

One of the things that changes when you are in the water with someone else is that fear doesn’t have to be something you face alone.

A look from the beach. A few words before the next wave. A laugh after a wipeout.

Having someone beside you doesn’t make the waves smaller. But it can make you feel bigger than the moment.

For Chiara and Paula, progression wasn’t only about pushing themselves individually. It was also about encouraging each other to go for the next wave, trying something new and knowing that someone else understood exactly what was going through your head.

Because sometimes the difference between staying on the beach and paddling out is simply having someone next to you who says:

LOUDER THAN FEAR

The goal was never to eliminate fear.

Fear is useful. It tells you when something deserves your attention. It makes you assess the conditions, respect the ocean and understand your own limits.But fear doesn’t have to make the decision for you. At some point, another feeling becomes stronger. The excitement of the take-off. The speed of the foil. The feeling of a clean line through a powerful wave. The moment when everything slows down and, for a few seconds, there is nothing left to think about.

That’s when the title of this film makes sense.

Louder Than Fear. Not because the fear disappeared. Because something else became louder. The desire to go. To try. To explore.

To find out what is possible when you stop letting the fear of what might happen keep you from discovering what could. Bali was the backdrop. The waves were the challenge. But the real journey was learning to trust the voice that says: Go anyway.
