YOU (STILL) WANT TO GIVE THE FASTEST GUYS AT YOUR SPOT A RUN FOR THEIR MONEY BUT DON’T WANT THE RIGGING HASSLE AND HEAVY HANDLING OF A CAM SAIL WHEN IT’S FILLED WITH WATER (ANYMORE). AND YOU WANT TO HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO EVEN USE THE RDM MASTS FROM YOUR WAVE SAILS WITHOUT ANY PERFORMANCE SACRIFICE. THEN THE X_PACE WILL BE YOUR WEAPON OF CHOICE!

The X_PACE project was born out of a personal demand from some of the o-50 guys in our department. Having been dedicated cam sail racers back in the days the wheel of time took its toll. Lifting a cam-sail being filled with water has simply become a dealbreaker. But these guys still have the speed-skills of being the fastest at their local spot.

The biggest hurdle was to generate a similar pre-shaping including a “hump” in the luff panel even without cambers. After 2 years of development we have achieved this with a completely unique shaping concept which induces a similar (pre)shaping into the luff panel like seen on cambered racing sails.

This heavy pre-shaping has also led to another decisive advantage as it allows to use RDM masts. Usually RDM masts do not work on sails bigger than 6.5 as they are simply too soft. But the pre-shaping of the X_PACE compensates for this to such an extent that there is no loss of performance compared to SDM masts.

Please note though that this heavy pre-shaping requires an active jibing technique especially in underpowered conditions. After shifting make sure to grip more than shoulder-wide and initiate the rotation through sheeting in with your backhand. When it comes to most effortless rotation, the E_PACE remains the top choice.

The X_PACE generates power, acceleration, speed and a locked-in feel that rivals any cambered sail. The forward pull pushes you into a committed stance, allowing to let your board fly on the fin.

And all of that combined with a super narrow mast sleeve. Combined with being one of the lightest freerace sails out there makes you lift the sail out of the water similar to a bigger wave sail.

Last but not least the absence of cams makes the X_PACE rig as easy and fast as a wave sail.

Here are some of the highlights of the brand-new X_PACE:

> 7-batten design >> Directly derived from our World Cup cam racing sail WARP_FIN for ultimate control and stability

> Increased pre-shaping >> Instant dragster-like acceleration similar to a race cam sail including the typical locked-in forward pull

> Increased pre-shaping >> Board and sail feel more connected and gives the rider more board control

> Lots of luff curve >> Results in a high sail foil tension >> maximum high-end control and thus V-max

> Triple XPly luff panel >> Allows to carry a high downhaul tension and greatly reduces stretch in the luff panel for maximum performance and stability

> Multiple tube battens >> Maximum stability and lower weight

> CARBON X_PLY in the in the high load luff area (top and foot) >> Maximum wind range (sail keeps the stability in stronger winds)

> Higher clew eyelet position >> Faster response for maximum performance

> Shorter Boom with increased Cutaway Clew >> Easy handling, better sail rotation through less swing weight

> LIGHT DONE RIGHT >> One of the lightest 7-batten Freerace sails out there but without sacrificing longterm durability proven by our unrivaled 5 YEAR WARRANTY

For me it’s a game changer

Over the last few days, I tested the 7.3 X_PACE in both very light and strong winds. The sail flies through the lulls while still feeling easy to handle in strong gusts. I even came close to breaking my personal speed record. What impressed me most is its huge wind range. I was comfortably using the 7.3 in conditions where I would normally have rigged a smaller sail. The board did not stop planing even in wind holes, a feeling I only knew from Windfoiling. I came from the E_PACE and I didn’t want to switch to a camber sail, so the X_PACE has been a pleasant surprise. Tacks and gybes feel a little different, and at times I had some trouble staying upwind. However, it wasn’t a major issue, and I suspect a slightly longer fin will help. I’m currently using a 37 cm fin, but I’ll try a longer one next. For reference, I’m sailing a Fanatic Ultra Blast 119 L freerace board.
