The PWA World Cup on Tenerife took place from the 5th - 12th of August in the waters of the laid back surf village of El Medano. Our Duotone Team riders sailed absolutely fantastic and got rewarded with podium places:
Victor Fernandez E42 won each and every heat the single elimination, stopping Ojeda, Voget, Paré and Stone. In the final he met team mate Adam Lewis K516, who before had defeated Campello. For Adam, it was his first ever final on the PWA tour. Welcome to the elite, Adam! In the double elimination Adam didn't quite find the right wave to score points and fell back on third, which is still an awesome result for the British wave sailor. By sending one of his trade mark double forwards, Victor could defend his sensational first place against Stone.
The podium riders from Pozo NOT making it into the TOP 3 in El Medano, mixes up the overall ranking completely. Victors 1st and 4th place from the event in Pozo, let him overtake Köster who became 1st and 5th respectively. With the last wave event on Sylt being rather inconsistent and unpredictable this is a very comfortable position for Victor.
Klaas Voget ended the hopes of youngster Gil Ghereradi and advanced to a 13th place in the double. Freestyle champ Gollito and hot shot Arthur Arutkin both took 17th.
In the womens competition our Duotone ladies Arrianne Aukes and Nicole Bandini showed some good wave riding and forward loops. Arrianne became 7th and sits on a 5th place in the overall ranking, Nicole took 9th and sits on a 9th in the overall now. Well done, ladies!
In the lighter winds of the first days the kids and youth competition took place. Our kids team broke all records and won almost every age group! Alexia Kiefer Quintana wins the U13/15 and Julia Pasquale takes home the U17 and U20 victory. We are stoked - well done you crazy chicas! The boys U13 competition saw Carlos Kiefer Quintana and Tobias Bjorna Andersen ripping and winning. In the U17 bracket, Jose Casanova Perez took third. The U20 juniors finals was dominated by Team Duotone as well: Noah Vocker won over Valentino Pasquale in an exciting final. Let us give credit where credit is due: Thanks to the parents, who spend hours on windy beaches, watching and worrying, freezing and filming, coaching and caddying. We know that without your time and effort, our young rippers wouldn’t have become the champions they are. THANK YOU!
There is only one event left on the PWA tour caledar. The Great Grand Slam on Sylt from the 28/09 - 07/10 will be the all deciding battle for the crown of all three disciplines.
