FOLLOWING ON FROM THE MAJOR SUCCESSES IN POZO IN THE SUMMER, IT WAS TIME TO TURN TO THE PWA YOUTH WORLD CUP FINALS IN KLITMOLLER TO CROWN THE PWA YOUTH WAVE CHAMPIONS FOR 2022.

2 PWA YOUTH CHAMPIONS - Tobias Bjornaa (U17 Boys) and Peter Gobisch (U15 Boys)

1 PWA YOUTH VICE CHAMPION - Julia Pasquale (U20 Girls)

Are these the SUPER_HEROs of the future?

In Pozo #TeamDuotone took 5 podiums in the Youth division of the World Cup but in completely different conditions up in the cold of Klitmoller, Denmark, would the same riders rise to the top or would the title race be blown wide open? With Alexia and Carlos Kiefer unable to attend due to school commitments, it was down to Pozo Champions Tobias Bjornaa (U17 Boys) and Peter Gobisch (U15 Boys) and Julia Pasquale (3rd Place U20 Girls) to fight it out for the podium places for the Duotone Young Blood Team.

In the single elimination, the title race was blown wide open with both Tobias and Peter being beaten in the final and sitting in 2nd place in their respective divisions. It was impressive sailing by both of them, but not enough to take the top spot which left their hopes of standing on the top step at the end of the week hanging in the balance. Julia Pasquale however fought through to the same position as in Pozo, finishing 3rd in the single elimination which all but confirmed her podium position, but which position was still to be decided.

Finals day was where our Young Blood truly shone however, showing they really are the next generation of SUPER_HEROs. For Peter Gobisch and Julia Pasquale, it was down the line riding conditions. For the young German, riding is his strength and these conditions particularly suited him. Not only did he win the double elimination final but also the deciding Super Final - event win and overall win CONFIRMED!

Unfortunately for Pozo Ripper, Julia, however, the riding conditions were not so favourable and thus she dropped back to 4th place in the Cold Hawaii rankings. Alongside her 3rd place from Pozo, this was enough to secure her 2nd place in the overall rankings in the U20 girls.

On the final day of the competition, huge waves and strong winds greeted the riders. It was crazy conditions even for the adults to compete in, but for local boy, Tobias Bjornaa, this is what he lives for and his fight back was on! It was the best of two heats - if Anton won the double elimination final in Cold Hawaii, a super final would determine the overall winner for the year, but if Tobias beat him in the final, a super final would be needed to determine not only the overall winner but also the event winner. Great friends off the water, but it was time for a showdown with the famous PWA trophy (and of course bragging rights on the beach) the prize.

The result - victory for our young SUPER_HERO. Winning the double elimination final and the super final to take the title of the PWA U17 Boys Wave Champion 2022.

How is it to be the best in the World?

Tobias: It’s feels amazing. After the first win in Pozo I trained so many hours but got 2nd in the single and then make a comeback to win the super final and be world champion that was really satisfying for me. But still my dream/goal is  one day to become the world champion in the men’s category

How were the conditions in Denmark, which gear were you using?

Tobias: We had absolute amazing conditions 3 days with perfect wind and waves both side shore, onshore and offshore. I was competing with the new beautiful superhero’s 3,4 and 3,7 - they are the perfect all-round wave sails!
