Sustainability is the most important and pressing challenge of todays mankind to secure a livable mother earth for future generations to come!
Over the last 50 years Windsurfing has developed into a super high tech sport. But let's face it despite what others might tell you with the exception of aluminium booms and extensions Windsurfing products are a "mixture of petrol-based plastic trash". And most times up to 100% of this plastic trash are non-recycled (means "freshly produced") plastics.
At least as of today there are no eco-friendly substitutes existing offering the minimum requirements necessary to design modern Windsurfing products. Or why do you think no one wants to sail with wooden booms, aluminium masts or stretchy sails made of woven fabrics anymore?
There is only one sustainable way out of this dilemma:
MAKING LONGER LASTING PRODUCTS (LONGEVITY = SUSTAINABILITY)
A high performance product that lasts longer and best case can even be put into additional use on the second hand market is the best and only way to conserve the resources of our earth.
Of course light components have a massive impact on the performance and handling of your rig. That's why light weight is always on our briefing list when designing and engineering new products. And DUOTONE products are among or in many cases are the lightest on the market.
But durability and longevity were and will ALWAYS be on top of our priority list. Our industry leading warranty extensions bear witness to this philosophy:
- 2 year unconditional warranty on almost every hardware product (masts, booms and extensions+bases).
- 5 year warranty on 80% of our sails.
On sails we cannot emphasize enough that especially reducing the thickness of the monofilm and the XPly laminate has a radical influence on the longevity/sustainability. Reducing the film thickness by 50% reduces the UV-stability by 70%. Just to shortterm impress magazine testers or customers some brands use up to 70% thinner laminates/films than we do. This is not our understanding of sustainability.
DOING MORE
However, since we are fully aware of the importance of sustainability, we cannot simply stop here.
>> Only we have stopped using any plastic for packaging our sails. This saves approx. 5 sqm of plastic film and foam per sail.
>> Only our aluminium products (booms and extensions+bases) are manufactured in a CO2 neutral production facility.
>> Only our aluminium products (booms and extensions+bases) are produced in Germany using 100% European raw materials in order to keep shipping distances (to our manufacture and then to our central warehouse) at a minimum.
>> Only our sail bags are made out of 100% recycled plastic.
>> Only we compensate all carbon emissions caused by our sails during manufacture and transport by supporting a hydropower carbon offset project in Sri Lanka, the country where our sails are produced.
Lowest design, extreme durability
So that the iBASE 2.0 can be installed or removed without the need for tools, it has been designed to include a central screw. Although these designs are normally built relatively high, our engineers have found a solution for making the iBASE 2.0 the lowest base of its kind. Because there is nothing in the way, the risk of injury to feet and toes is kept to a minimum. In contrast to conventional mastfoot bases made of Zytel plastic, the iBASE 2.0 is the only one produced using a much stiffer material known as POM, thus improving the durability.
One for all – just one base for all conditions
We are 100% convinced that absolutely no-one in any conditions and for any discipline needs more than one base. The high flexibility and ease of installation and removal makes the need for multiple bases and different systems simply obsolete. This is why we only offer the iBASE 2.0. All these additional features do not lead to any additional weight – something other bases in the market cannot claim to achieve!
Release option
We have always been annoyed having to unscrew the base from the board after the surf session with tired hands, just so the board fits into the board bag. For this problem in particular the iBASE 2.0 features a useful release option for removing the connection joint by simply pulling the sand-resistant, stainless-steel U-pin. Without the need for tools, you can also swap this for a different model in a matter of seconds depending on your preferences.
An additional advantage of this feature is that with a replacement joint/tendon you are immediately ready for action again when worst comes to worst – without having to go through the effort of repairing the joint/tendon.
Even safer
A) For all safety nuts, the release button can now be fixed with a screw (PERMA LOCK OPTION), thus inhibiting the release function.
B) Should the iBASE 2.0 ever become stuck to the board after long storage times, two holes now allow you to use a screwdriver as a lever to release the base with ease.

The JOINT FOR iBASE comes with an original Powerjoint. It's made out of natural rubber material. Together with an increased cross section this guarantees maximum durability/longevity
iTENDON FOR iBASE
The iTENDON is made out of an exclusive high tech material from BASF. This material guarantees the most direct power transmission between board and rig.
For maximum durability and longevity you should go for the JOINT version.
For maximum performance though you should go for the iTENDON as it immediately transmits the sail power into forward motion.
In the end it's also a bit of personal preference:
- All our pro-riders use the iTENDON as they prefer the direct transmission and don't like the offset the softer JOINT creates during sailing.
- All our centres prefer the JOINT as it's simply longer lasting.

The iBASE features a convenient sand-resistant release option, which allows you to remove the connection joint by simply pulling the stainless steel U-wire. Or for the first time ever have the free choice of different kind of joints.
Perma Lock OptionFor all hardcore freaks the release button can optionally be fixed with a screw now.
Joint for iBase (incl. Duotone-pin long)This version features the legendary, slightly softer original PowerJoint durex. Together with the large cross-section this guarantees maximum longevity. Since the built-in DUOTONE pin has been established as the standard on the market for decades, the joint can directly be used with approx. 90% of all mast extensions on the market. (Note: Not compatible with EPX.XT RDM)
iTENDON (incl. Duotone-pin short)The most innovative tendon when it comes to performance and safety. Instead of the usual polyurethane material we use a BASF high-tech material for the connecting string, which is about 50% tougher and more durable. Another advantage of this exclusive tendon material is that it avoids the usual offset between rig and board slowing you down. That‘s why the iTENDON is the first choice of many PWA competitors as it offers a more direct power transmission between rig and board than any other tendon out there.
Maximum security is granted through the new DYNEEMA.SAFETY.SYSTEM – a highest quality Dyneema kite line that is integrated into the BASF tendon guarantees absolute safety. Extremely lightweight, extremely tear-resistant and absolutely stretch-free. For maximum durability the top and bottom parts are milled out of single V2A stainless steel blocks.
Attention: do not use in combination with SURFBENT! Due to the bumper this product creates an over-bend (more than 90°) causing the integrated Dyneema safety rope to cut through the iTENDON.
iTendon ShoxIdentical to iTENDON, the SHOX-version comes equipped with the revolutionary Shox-attachment instead of the Duotone pin. Thus, the iTENDON.SHOX is compatible with all extensions of the SHOX SERIES and makes the iBASE the ideal fitting base.
2.PHASE.WASHER.PLATEThe exclusive washer plate is produced in a 2-phase over-moulding process (like an electric toothbrush).
- The upper side consists of a low friction PVC material effectively reducing the force necessary to tighten the iBASE 2.0 onto the board
- The bottom side is over-moulded using a special rubber-mixture to avoid any sliding on the board
