Across the English Channel with Tom Auber

The idea for the adventure was born years earlier while Tom was working aboard ferries crossing the Channel. Day after day, he found himself watching the wind and swell rolling across the open water and wondering whether it would be possible to foil these conditions and cover such a huge distance using nothing but the energy of the ocean.

From that initial idea, the project slowly began to take shape. But for a mission of this scale, everything had to come together. After two years of waiting for the right weather window, last Sunday finally delivered the opportunity Tom had been looking for.

Over the course of 8 hours and 45 minutes, he covered an impressive 212.89 kilometres on his foil, touching down only five times along the entire route to make adjustments to his setup. An incredible display of endurance, efficiency and determination, and a testament to just how far modern foiling equipment can take you when combined with the right conditions, experience and commitment.

More than just an impressive distance, the adventure was the realization of an idea that had stayed with Tom for years — transforming countless hours spent looking out across the English Channel into one unforgettable day on the water.
