Behind The Design: Crest D/LAB

With the launch of the Crest D/LAB Foil & Monobloc Tails, we’re taking foiling into a new era. We sat down with R&D mastermind Jérôme Bonieux to dive into the design process, key innovations, and what riders can expect from these latest additions to the foiling range.

Jerome, the Crest D/LAB is brand new to the Duotone foil lineup. What makes it so special?
The Crest D/LAB is all about precision and flow. It’s designed for riders who want instant response and smooth carving — whether you’re prone foiling, carving turns with a wing, or using foil assist in swell. We shaped it with a playful outline and upturned wingtips to combine agility with control, and the D/LAB construction makes it both, light and low drag.

What kind of performance can riders expect?
Versatility is key here. The Crest adapts really well across a wide speed range — from mellow peelers to steeper waves. It pumps efficiently, glides effortlessly, and the forgiving stall speed makes wave connections much easier. Plus, its ability to re-enter smoothly after tip breaches, airs, or foil slides gives riders more freedom to push their maneuvers.

The design looks quite unique. Can you highlight some of the technical features?
Absolutely. The moustache-style curvature with the upturned tips improves control and turning agility. We also went for a very clean, low-drag build — minimizing visible screws to keep both performance and aesthetics at a premium level. And of course, it’s fully compatible with our new Monobloc Tails, as well as S and PX stabilizers, giving riders maximum tuning options.

»The Crest D/LAB feels super fast and reactive - it turns instantly and carves with so much control. Pumping is effortless, connecting waves feels easy, and it stays smooth even at full speed. From playful peelers to steeper walls, it's the most versatile foil I've ridden.«

Speaking of the Monobloc Tails — can you tell us what’s new there?
The Monobloc PX and Monobloc S are a big step forward. They’re one-piece carbon tails with integrated stabilizers, designed to minimize drag to an absolute minimum. The PX is tuned for higher speeds — wing foiling or assist-powered sessions — while the S is optimized for swell-focused riding, with fluid turning response and clean, connected lines on bumps or swell. Together, they give riders the ability to fine-tune their setup exactly to their style.

What makes the Monobloc Tail PX D/LAB stand out?
As already mentioned, the PX is our high-speed performance tail. Its one-piece Carbon design with integrated stabilizer minimizes drag to the lowest level in our range, giving you smooth, precise handling and a fluid turning response — perfect for Wing Foiling or assist-powered sessions at higher speeds. Each size has a tailored fuselage length for balance and control.

And what about the Monobloc Tail S D/LAB — how is it different?
The S is our wave-focused tail, built for swell-powered foiling. Its one-piece Carbon design with integrated stabilizer reduces drag to a minimum, adding speed, glide, and smooth control. It’s purpose-built for fluid transitions, dynamic turns, and seamless flow on swell. The S is especially popular with prone, parawing and downwind foilers chasing anything from bumps to clean lines. The S tail isn’t only turning well, it also adds great pump and glide efficiency to the foil.

Who would you say these new products are made for?
The Crest D/LAB works for a broad range of foilers because it comes in sizes from 675 cm² up to 1050 cm². Whether you’re into Wing Foiling, Prone Foiling, Downwinding, Parawinging, Wake Foiling, or just FreeFly, it’s about unlocking more agility and precision. And with the new different Monobloc Tails, riders can now push their performance further than ever before.
