WE HAVE Another WORLD CHAMPION ON OUR TEAM: marion mortefon!

Last week in Japan saw the final stage of the PWA World Tour Slalom and in the women’s division there was only one word to describe Marion Mortefon’s performance – dominant. Dominant on the fin, dominant on the foil, and that’s why Marion is the 2022 PWA Slalom World Champion! Congratulations Marion from everyone at Duotone HQ!

WORLD CHAMPION - MARION MORTEFON

We caught up with Marion straight after the racing and here’s what she had to say:

“I’m super proud to finish World Champion this year again. It was a long week with a lot of different conditions. I loved to race with both WARP_FIN andWARP_FOIL this year, so I’m super happy to win here. I was very happy with my equipment and my training this year – I was prepared for anything this week. I am really looking forward to next year as well, to push again on foil and I really hope we will have some amazing wind to do some fin races too.”

As Marion says – Japan threw everything at the riders from light wind foil racing, medium-strong wind foiling and some full power high wind fin action, and it was great to see our equipment performing so well in all conditions.

In the men’s division the racing was much tighter, with all positions being determined down to the last race. It was thrilling to watch but unfortunately #TeamDuotone were on the wrong side of the luck this season.

PIERRE MORTEFON

Pierre Mortefon came incredibly close to a podium in Sylt, in the end finishing 4th place there, but unfortunately couldn’t find a rhythm in Japan. In the end Pierre finished in 8th place in Japan, leaving him 7th for the season. It’s the first time since 2014 that Pierre has finished outside of the top 3 and we know for sure that he will be coming back hungrier than ever next year!

JORDY VONK

For the IFCA Slalom World Champion, Jordy Vonk, there were signs of his world beating ability coming through, but a lack of consistency to continually post top results left him in 10th place for the week. After a 10thin Sylt, Jordy is ranked 9th overall this year. Jordy finishes the season with a plethora of trophies to his name: IFCA Slalom World Champion, Dutch National Champion, One Hour Classic Fin and Foil Winner, Trofeo Nierotti Champion – we are sure it won’t be long before PWA World Champion is added to that list!

Outside of the Top 10, William Huppert finished in 12th position, whilst Jimmy Thieme scored his best result in a PWA event to date, finishing 24th and 21st for the season! Jimmy is definitely one to watch for the future.

Overall, there were some great results and moments of brilliance for the team in a year where almost every single race has counted. We know these boys will be coming back stronger and hungrier than ever before next year!

JENNA GIBSON

In the rest of the women’s fleet, 3 x IFCA Slalom World Champion, Jenna Gibson, struggled to find form on the foil at the start of the week, but finishing with a 3rd place in the final elimination shows that she is not only a winner on the fin, but she’s definitely one to watch out for on the foil. That final elimination result catapulted Jenna right up the rankings to finish 8th for 2022.

SARAH JACKSON

For Sarah Jackson, breaking her foot one week before the event was not the ideal preparation, but with only one event for the women this season she was determined to battle on. Putting down two top 6 results showed the performance is there but it wasn’t enough for a top 10 finish, and she dropped out of the top 10 on the final day to finish 12th. An incredible effort despite her injury and we wish her a speedy recovery!

ALICE READ

Rounding out the British trio is Alice Read. Like Jenna, it was a slow start to the week for Alice with some early exits, but she progressively improved, climbing up the rankings to finish the week with two winners finals and a 13th place for 2022.
