JORDY FAST ON FOIL IN JAPAN

After an intense development program for our WARP_FOIL 2024, the objective for Jordy was clear: compete again with the big boys at the front of the field. In Fuerteventura, he opened the season in the first elimination with a 3rd place finish and managed to stay in the top 10 throughout the event. In Sylt, he struggled with the challenging conditions that the riders had to face, but in Japan, he finally managed to showcase the incredible speed he had up his sleeve.

Duotone: After the winter training, rumors suggested you were fast. Are you happy you finally proved it?

Jordy: It was about time, haha! I really felt good over the winter training in Tenerife with the guys. Maybe it even went a little too well, motivating the others to put in the work. But what can I say? I had so much more fun racing on the foil this year, which I think is something everyone could see. Am I completely satisfied? No, because I think I could have shown more. But was it a step in the right direction? That’s for sure!

Duotone: What were the conditions like in Japan?

Jordy: Actually, I would say we got pretty unlucky with the wind. The whole week before the event, it was windy every day. So, to only score two windy days out of five days of competition isn’t great. On the other hand, the conditions on those days were nice. On the first day, we were using 6.4 sails with small/medium front wings, and on the second day, it got a bit lighter, with most of us using 7.5 or 8.7. Personally, it’s a shame that we didn’t race more in those lighter winds this year. I really feel the bigger sizes are incredibly fast compared to the others!

Duotone: Was it the gear that made you perform better this year?

Jordy: It’s a mix, I would say, because the gear felt so much better, and I got a confidence boost. With that confidence, you simply race better. So, indirectly, the answer to the question is actually: yes!

The foil discipline really feels like the F1 of windsurfing disciplines. There’s so much trimming and tuning involved; it’s actually insane, but very exciting at the same time.

Duotone: What is your goal with the foil in 2025, what are your winter plans?

Jordy: Basically, to show my potential! I’m convinced that at least for one event, I can finish on the podium, so that’s what I want to do.

The level is high and incredibly close, but when all the puzzle pieces come together, I’m sure the outcome will be great.

Last winter, I mostly trained on the foil. I think I will train a bit more on the fin again to improve, for example, my jumping for the SlalomX discipline. But in the meantime, I’ll make sure I’m up to speed on the foil as well.

I’ll be in Tenerife again from January until the end of March, and I’m already looking forward to spending time on the water there with the 2025 Duotone gear!

Thanks again, Jordy, for your dedication this year. It was great to follow the livestream of the racing, and we can't wait to see you racing even more at the front of the field next year!
