As the first manufacturer to launch individual kitemodels in the new, lightweight SLS construction, we took things another step further and pushed the limits of technical feasibility by introducing our D/LAB technology on themarket. By starting to experiment with newmaterials and innovative construction methods, we discovered a whole new universe of design options, with a complimentary new realm of associated challenges. Initially, weight reduction was our main aim. But rebuilding an existing kite design in a lighter, innovative material, isn’t as simple as just changing the cloth. A total redesign (profile, leading-edge diameter, bridle configuration etc.) is required. Whether it is the Aluula in our D/LAB kites, Penta TX in the SLS kites or the standard Dacron: all of these materials have different properties such as strength, stretch, and stiffness, creating significant implications on the performance, the flight characteristics and riding experience of each kite. Just changing one material in the kite will never make a model perform better. Kite development is always the sum of all the individual factors, such as seam construction, manufacturing technology etc. that leads to the realization of distinct properties in a kite.
