Duotone Magazine No. 06

For me, strong wind is always synonymous with the opportunity to push my limits. At the same time staying safe and uninjured is key. That’s why I train a lot in the gym, to build up power and stretch my body. I also prepare myself mentally. I always visualize the tricks I want to do before I go out on the water. Andrea “Winning KOTA two times in a row is like the dream of my life came true twice. And it’s not over yet. My best jumps were close to 40 meters, on the WOO App it was around 35 meters. But with stronger wind I can fly even higher, that I know. There’s a very strong will to go higher every time I go out on the water. I love to feel the wind on my body. Each time I know I have the chance to create something new– a trick no one has done before in these conditions, or ever. So potentially I can invent something new with every jump. That’s what I am enjoying the most. When I land something that didn’t exist before itmeans something became possible that seemed not to be possible before – that’s the best feeling in theworld. That’swhat keepsme going – it’s why I keep chasing for the strongest day of my life.” When it comes to pushing limits, there are two riders who stand out: Andrea Principi, 2 times winner of the Red Bull King of the Air and James Carew, GKA Surfboard Big Air World Champion 2024. James has also made a name for himself in Big Wave, riding the notoriously big waves in Nazaré, Portugal. How does it feel to expose yourself to these forces of nature, to feel the power of thewind and thewaves? One thing is clear: it takes real heroism to face this unique force of nature.
