Duotone DRIVEN Magazine No.04
Duotone Rebel SLS Porsche Edition This was a very exciting task for us. For the first- ever product out of the collaboration between Porsche and Duotone, the limited Rebel SLS Porsche edition, we asked ourselves: what does a kite look like that portrays the design language of Porsche and Duotone. A car has a very different complexity of design than a kite. The aim was to find a design language that conveys the special way Porsche designs its products and what Porsche stands for and translate this into a kite design. In our collaboration, we found many parallels between both brands: The engineering spirit, innovative strength, performance & design affinity, and much more. The result is a limited Rebel SLS in a unique, Porsche-inspired design. In the making, I was clearly driven by Porsche’s motorsport genes and heritage. For me, the design of the kite is a dynamically reduced formal language with numerous vehicle- specific elements of Porsche race cars. The slots of the wheelhouse ventilation, the start number, as well as the arrows that point on tow-hooks and fasteners can also be found as design elements in the kite. The design is carried by the V-shape, inspired by the Porsche crests tapered shape. The kite was manufactured in limited numbers. Duotone has never had such a limited edition before. There are 222 kites in total. Every single one is numbered. This is also inspired by special edition vehicle models. Part of the proceeds from the sale has gone and will continue to contribute to Duotone’s young talent development program. This ‘Young Blood’ initiative gives young talents the opportunity to develop on various levels and facilitates their entry into professional sports. In addition to physical topics, this includes meetings with professional athletes, training in social media use, and the acquisition of sponsors. Porsche has been supporting our ‘Young Blood’ program since the beginning of our partnership. I am very proud to be part of this project.
