Duotone DRIVEN Magazine No.04

Kite models Finally, we design our seven kite models in detail. Because each model shows a characteristic color choice and corresponding graphic design. While the panel layout is not fundamentally different, a Rebel SLS with a high aspect ratio or a Juice with many segments will look completely different from a Mono with only a few segments or the compac t Neo. The differentiation via colors is more decisive with the kite models. There are colors that look rather light, and those that look relatively solid – although the kite cloth is, of course, always the same weight. As an example, we would prefer a light gray-yellow rather than a dark gray-purple combination for a light-wind kite. And then, we visually differentiate our different construction methods D/LAB, SLS, and original. After all, a D/LAB high-performance kite should also convey its exceptional performance and values in its design. So, for example, it will never be as colorful as a n original Dice. The three designs already have different markings in the design of the kite frame: D/LAB with the golden- yellow of the Aluula material, SLS with a dark gray frame, and the original kites with an individually colored dacron frame. In addition, we vary the cut and complexity of the design. In the original design, we usually use a simpler and more efficient panel design that features two colors. The SLS design can be more complex and highlight a third canopy color or differentiate in any other way from the original kites. After all, the SLS construction methods and fabrics are more complex and expensive - you should see that in the design. The D/LAB construction is led by innovation and performance and should portray this technical approach in a premium design approach. In Kite design overall, we have to take into account that a kite is a product that you will always see at a distance between 20 and several hundred meters. This means the long-distance effect of the design is insanely important. Therefore, the highest premise for us designers is that the overall design must guarantee a clear identification as a Duotone product. Everyone at the beach should immediately recognize a Duotone kite in the sky. D R I V E N 6 1
