S A V E T H E D A T E C L E A N O U R B E A C H E S ! 30.04.20 – 03.05.20 On May 1st 2019, we called on you to help collect trash from shores around the globe and it was a huge success: Close to one ton of waste was collected. From Australia to Europe, from Cape Verde to the USA and even to the far reaches of Russia and Brazil; team riders, sales agents, reps and our friends from ION Club joined forces together with you to contribute to the fight against plastic pollution. But the plastic problem, amongst other environmental challenges, is unabated. Plastic is cheap and incredibly versatile with properties that make it ideal for many applications. However, these qualities have resulted in plastic becoming one of the most pressing environmental issue of today. Over the last ten years mankind has produced more plastic than during the whole of the last century. We have developed a “disposable” lifestyle and estimates are that around 50% of plastic is used just once and thrown away. A plastic bag for example has an average “working life” of 15 minutes but it lasts for at least several hundred years on this planet. “We see it as our mission to counteract this development by helping to keep the oceans and the air clean and our earth healthy. After all, this is our home – and not just that, it’s our playground where we can enjoy these incredible sports we all love so much,” says Till Eberle, CEO of Boards & More. “We have a responsibility to keep these playgrounds clean and healthy to ensure that future generations will also be able to enjoy them.” That’s why we initiated “Save our playgrounds” – a platform to coordinate actions by our brands Duotone, ION and Fanatic to protect our environment. This is paired with steady efforts to minimize our company’s environmental footprint, like reducing plastic packaging, using recyclable materials (see p. 64) and stepping up for greener manufacturing processes (see p. 82). In 2020, we call to all of you again to help us clean the beaches. To maximize our impact, we will extend the initiative and organize beach cleanings for multiple days to maximize the effect and to make it easier for everyone to join us: Save our playgrounds –Clean our beaches! April 30th toMay 3rd 2020 At Boards & More we are trying to also personally contribute to a cleaner environment. It’s the little things that count and that actually everyone can do on a daily basis: + Use reusable bags, made of recycled materials + Use reusable bottles, reusable coffee cups and food containers + Try to avoid packaging whenever possible – buy loose! + Stop using plastic straws and coffee stirrers + Take 3!
