Four emerging teenagers, all world-class, on the brink of becoming the next windsurf superstars, talk us through the role the sport plays in their lives. Carlos Kiefer, his siste r Alexia and Tobias Bjørnaa have all been friends for many years. Sharing their passion for Windsurfing, they often spend time together at different spots around the world. Cesar Filippi , a fellow teammate and excellent waterman, recently invited the whole gang over to his home spot, Carro in France, when a good forecast popped up. All four of them are among the greatest up-and-coming talents in professional Windsurfing today and with a strong bond between them, they are united by their ambition to become World Champion in the coming years. Sharing waves, and talking about life in general, their aims, and the essential role Windsurfing plays in their lives, the trip to Carro cemented the friendship between them even more. “Windsurfing just makes me happy!” Tobias says. Growing up in Klitmøller, in Denmark, one of THE top windsurf spots worldwide, he inherited his passion for the sport from his dad, one of the few Danish athletes on the PWA Tour. Taught by his father, Tobias started Windsurfing when he was five and has been completely hooked ever since. “You travel to different places in the world, and through the sport, you get to see new cultures, people, and lifestyles. That’s what makes Windsurfing so special to me. And of course, learning and pulling new moves. You try so many times and when you finally stick a trick for the first time, it’s such a big satisfaction, an almost unmatchable feeling.” Carlos and Alexia Kiefer have a similar background. Living on Gran Canaria they call Pozo Izquierdo home. When they were 8–9 years old, their dad introduced them to Windsurfing. “I instantly fell in love with the sport,” Alexia says. “I tried so many other things like football and tennis, but nothing compares to Windsurfing! I feel completely free when I sail and at the same time, I feel a lot of happiness and adrenaline. Seeing Gran Canaria, my island, from the water is one of the things I like the most about it.” What the f u t u r e h o l d s ALEXIA KIEFER QUINTANA 19 years PWA World Champion U20 2023 PWA World Champion U17 2019 PWA World Champion U15 2018 CARLOS KIEFER QUINTANA 16 years PWA World Champion U17 2023 PWA World Champion U13 2019 CÉSAR FILIPPI 17 years Waterman TOBIAS BJØRNAA 17 years Danish Champion Wave U20 2023 PWA World Champion Wave U17 2022 PWA Vice World Champion Wave U17 2021 PWA Vice World Champion Wave U15 2019 PWA World Champion Wave U13 2018 Copy Laura Alexy Photos John Carter Rider Alexia Kiefer D U O T O N E 111 F U T U R E D U O T O N E 110 W H Y
